Your favorite memory
Dear Diary,
Memories are like a scent from your childhood. They're so discreet, yet so precious, so joyous and so nostalgic.
You really can't help but reminisce it for many more hours. My favorite memory is from when I was 10 and we took a road trip to Ohio.
My life, being my life, acted up and our car broke down mid way.Little did we know, that our car breaking down and us never reaching Ohio would be the best thing to ever happen to us.
We pushed our car to an auto repair shop in a nearby town and went to a diner nearby to have some food.
We entered and the faint smell of hamburgers and fries hit our noses, making our stomachs grumble.
The atmosphere automatically made us feel better as everyone around us was laughing and chatting, all the people looked nice and friendly. We settled ourselves, gave our orders and waited for our food in silence.
We also ate in silence, for God knows what reason, but then something hit my dad.He threw the lettuce from his burger into mom's milkshake and she gasped, laughing.
Then she took some of the same milkshake and poured it on his burger, just a little bit of it.Me and Luke laughed, now was our time to prank each other. Luke threw some of his fries in my soda and I threw some of my fries on his head, taking the game to another level.
Within a few minutes, all our food was messed up along with our clothes. We were laughing like retards and I'm positive that the rest of the people were suspicious about our mental health.
Our stomachs, empty
Our hearts, filled with love and glee. The auto repair shop wasn't able to fix our car and recommended that we all go back home instead of traveling all the way to Ohio.
Naturally, me and Luke were bummed.
Once we were in the car, without an air conditioner, silence descended upon us with all its might and disappointment joined in, both our enemies dancing in the atmosphere.
My mom, being the jolly person that she was, decided that this day should not end like this.
So she started humming 'Wannabe' by Spice Girls.
She knew I loved the song and eventually, I joined her.
Soon, dad and Luke were singing too.I rolled down my window, sticking my face out of the window. The smell of fresh fruit, grass and the soil wafted through the air.
Summer was here.
I felt the breeze rush past my face, I stuck my arm out too, moving it in a wave pattern.
I immediately grinned and closed my eyes.I could feel the wind against my skin, the scent of plain summer fill my nostrils, the sound of my family singing 'Hey There Delilah' and I decided that this was my favorite place ever.
I knew that no harm could touch me as long as I was in that car, singing with my family.
People come and go and so do moments.
Memories, however, remain with us forever. If I close my eyes and recall the mornings where all of us were together, I can still smell the pancakes, I can still sense the joy of yelling 'checkmate!' when playing against Luke, I can still hear the sound of dad turning the newspaper's page.
Even though I have lost almost all of them by now, my family still means everything to me.
At least the family that sang together and threw random stuff in each other's food, meant everything to me.It's really very funny how times change.
This is why I love this lyric:
"Wish we could turn back time, to the good old days. When our mama sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out"I really wish I could go back to the days when all was good, when everything was rainbows and sunshine, when I believed in Santa and unicorns.
But the bitter truth is that time changes, and with it life changes, and somewhere along this difficult path, so do we.
