Chapter 18 A New Friend Named Death

I awoke to voices, "I don't know if she'll make it the poison is spreading rapidly." the voice was old, deep. I knew it belonged to a male.

"No she can't die, she has people who need her." Another voice, Leon, said.

"I know, but the poison was close to her heart, my team and I are going to extract it then it's up to her to decided if she wants to live or die." The old voice said calmly.

I drifted out again. I awoke again sometime later, to a new voice this one female, "Doctor, the poison is gone and now it's up to her."

I drifted out once again. This time though I was in a black place with fog curling around my ankles. A man stood a few feet in front of me, he was handsome in a weird way, he was in a suit that looked like he was going to a funeral, and had chestnut colored hair, his eyes were black, and his skin was a pale white that showed the veins in his hands, "Sapphire do you know who I am?" He asked his voice was soft and soothing.

"Death." I replied, I don't know how I knew but I did.

"Yes and I be come to give you two choices." He stated. "You may come with me and spend the next hundred years in paradise, with your parents and beloved, or you may return to earth and deal with your loses, and be ruler of a broken kind."

"Broken?" I asked confused.

"The avians, and canines have lost their leaders and will never except Justin and Muse as their leaders, they look to you and you are going to rule them should you choose to return and I have a feeling Kyle is going to join your ranks and that means so will the other reptiles." He replied.

I stared at him, "Who needs me more?"

"Your people."

"Than I want to live."

"So it was said and so it shall be, someday Sapphire we will meet again and next time I will have you and you won't have a second choice."

"When that day comes I will welcome you with open arms, goodbye Death and thank you for the second chance."

I awoke to crying, "Sapphire?" A deep voice asked thick with tears.

"Leon." I whispered looking into his storm grey eyes.

He smiled and kissed me happily. I held him tightly. He pulled away, "I thought I'd lost you, the heart monitors stopped and they bond was weakening. I could feel my soul following yours-" he cried.

"Hush now my love I have no intention of leaving. That I promise now lets go tend to those who need us. He smiled and gently pushed me down, "First lets get you clothes." I looked down at myself noticing for the first time I was only wearing a flimsy hospital gown. "Yeah that would be nice."
