Light on the Side of Darkness

Mystery POV

I bit back a growl as the whip licked my back again.

"I'm going to ask one more time where is she?" The monster asked dragging the bloodied whip across the floor. My shoulders were screaming out from the pain of baring all my weight on the pole. This wasn't the first time he had done this and it surely wasn't the last I knew I'd heal I could already feel the bleed slowing.

"I don't know." I said my blue eyes flashing.

He glared at me and raised the whip it cracked and broke the skin in between my shoulder blades I bit back a whimper. My back was laced with old whip marks I knew they'd heal without a scar but it still hurt. I felt my skin trying to knit back together, but before it could my father cracked the whip again. I snarled my instincts begging me to shift to protect myself. I heard him laugh at my pain. He finally had my half brother let me down I slumped heavily against him. Once he dragged me out of the room and into mine he sighed, "You need to stop tempting him."

"I know, but I can't risk him finding her, she's my everything. If I lose her I have nothing." I said as he began cleaning the wounds. I hissed at the pain, he made a sound sympathetically knowing what I was going through, we had both been on that post many times because we did something he didn't like. Once he cleaned it out he sighed, "Are you going to try getting away?" He asked me.

I nodded, "Yeah my mom has everything packed for her and Rose and I went and hid it in the woods this morning."

"Are you sure it's alright if I come?" He asked me.

I nodded, "You're my brother I wouldn't leave you."

His mother had died when our father strangled her for not complying with him, I was the only family he really had other than his mate of course. I felt my back knitting back together it was painless but took a lot of energy, long ago when hunters first appeared they thought if they drank shifter blood they would attain our ability to heal quickly, they captured hundreds of shifters and bleed us for months until they were finally drained dry, the hunters didn't heal anymore quickly then they did before. I sighed, "Be ready to run tonight we leave when the moon is at it's highest." He nodded and left me to get my mother and sister ready for the long and hard journey to my mate.

*many hours later.*

I quietly crept to where I was going to meet my mother, when I saw her waiting for me with Rose in her arms I sighed in relief, I saw my brother waiting next to her, and sighed I looked at them, "Mom hand me Rose, ill carry her make sure that you two stay right behind me the entire time." I shifted and gently gripped the basket my sister was in. My mother shifted into a lynx and my brother shifted into a bobcat. They nodded and I began to slink through the foliage my mother grabbed the bags in her mouth and we began to trot as soon as we climbed through the hole we began to run. I knew my father didn't have very good protection but I didn't realize it was this unprotected. I shook my head I didn't have time to worry I knew my father would come check on me soon and see I was gone, I didn't want that so I picked up the pace. I loved being a lion they could lop for hours on end. My brother and mom could keep up easily. We ran until we reached the reptilians territory I didn't step onto I just set my sister down and bellowed the lions call to their mate. Ten minutes later I heard the sound of running paws, a beautiful snow leopard burst through the bushes.

"Leon, you came!" She cried launching herself at me and shifting midair. I caught her shifting as well I didn't care I was nude I just wanted to hold her assure myself she was ok and really here in my arms. I kissed her head.

"I will always come for you." I whispered.

"Leon who's this? Cas? What are you doing here?" Sapphire asked

"Hey Sapp," Cas replied

"This is my mother and little sister." I said gesturing to them. Sapphire smiled at them, "Come on I have so much to tell you."

"As do I my love as do I." I replied allowing her to lead the way we all shifted back to cats and began walking to where it was she was taking us.
