Light on the Side of Darkness

I smiled as mother pulled out my gown, it was a blue green and flowed perfectly around my curves today was the day I found my mate, the day my parents would step down as rulers and I would become queen. I sat quietly as she began curling my hair and pinning it back with diamond clips. "Mother, will I find my mate today?" I asked looking at her through the mirror.

"Of course love it's where I met your Father." I heard the door open and my Father walked in. "My love it is time." My father was a handsome man,his hair was black as a panthers pelt, his eyes were golden like a lions mane, his lips were full, his skin light brown and his body was a corded muscle. My mother was beautiful, her hair was the color wheat, her eyes a deep blue her lips red as a rose her skin was golden brown. I stood I gave one final look in the mirror and glanced at my parents they were kissing and it quickly headed south, "Really?" I asked. "PG guys, PG!" I walked up and ran into my best friend Lilly, she was beautiful her brown slightly curly hair was crimped pinned back with a butterfly clip and her brown eyes were framed with soft purple eye shadow to match her dress which was lavender with shimmery material that had a slit running up her leg, her skin was as pale as mine I smiled we've been friends since we were cubs.

"Where's Cas? Normally he's with you." I said as we walked down the hall to the balcony.

"He was talking to the guards something about keep us safe." She replied we burst out laughing.

"Men," I said as our laughter died down as we reached the end of the hall we waited until we heard my family and I be announced, she smiled as I walked out after my parents i smiled and once the music started I walked down the stairs to Lilly, we began dancing, and laughing suddenly I was tapped on the shoulder, an electric current went down my arm I smiled and whispered, "Mate." I turned around he looked similar to me, his hair was the same golden blond as mine, his eyes were the same bright grey, he was well built and stood about 5'6 to my 5'3. "My name is Leon." He said his voice was a deep baritone. I smiled, "Leon," I whispered. It sounded right in my mouth he smiled as he cupped my cheeks, Lilly's mate Cas walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, "we should give them alone time," he murmured. She smiled and nodded her head. They turned around walked away. Leon gently pressed his lips to mine. It was perfect in every way shape and form. My hands snaked around his neck and tangled in his hair. I felt his hands grip my waist tightly. This moment was perfect, but then it was shattered as guards yelled out, "GET THE ROYALS IN THE PALACE NOW!" I was pulled inside and separated from Leon. "Leon!" I called out frantically. I felt my claws prick against my skin, and my teeth elongate with stress, I felt my wild side start to slip free, I pushed it back down and began looking for a familiar face but I could see non as I was pushed by people and guards. "Sapphire!" I heard Lilly call as she pushed through the crowd, "are you alright,?" I nodded as we pushed through people to the balcony. I noticed the people beginning to disperse as the were herded out the doors. When everyone was finally gone I began sniffing the air trying to find my parents sent along with Leon's distinct smell of African grass and papaya fruit. I heard my mothers scream fill the air and looked down to see her pinned by a masked man with the insignia of the hunters on his back, "were's your precious Sapphire?" He taunted. She bared her teeth and snarled I noticed my father'a black panther sinking up behind him, cat shifters can shift into any cat they want but we all have a favored form, my fathers was the black panther, right as he lept a shot rang out and he slumped to the floor blood pouring out of the gaping hole in his chest, my mother yowled in pain as my father died I was about to leap down and save my mother but Lilly stopped me by holding my arm back, "you father died to protect you don't let it be in vain." She whispered. I nodded tears forming in my eyes. "You bastard!" My mother snarled.  

"Tsk tsk," the hunter replied, "were's your daughter?"  

She snarled, "far away from you." He let out an agitated huff, "now now we can do it the easy way or the hard way." He said gripping her throat.  

"No matter what you're still gonna kill me, even if you don't you know as well as I ?when my wild side dies I die and you already killed it so you have minutes." My mother replied her eyes losing there luminescence. He gave a cry and stabbed her heart she died instantly. "No."I whispered. Lilly began dragging me to our secret tunnel that led out of the palace. Once we were in it I began to sob how could the most special day of my life turn out to be the worst. Lilly pulled me in to a hug as I felt a burning sensation on my shoulder. The pain became unbearable, the last thing I remember is Lilly calling my name.
