chapter 5

(giuliana's pov)
it's now thursday. the day we find out whether or not we are in the top 50. yesterday at the dance audition, i think i did really well. well i guess i had an advantage though because i dance basically on a daily basis. we mostly did hip hop and some acro. they asked if any of us can do any splits or can do any tumbling. i have my middle and right split. i could also do front and side ariels, back handspring and back tuck. nothing really crazy, just tricks we use in dances. nicolette and ellie were really good. they arent super flexible but they can definitely hold their own dancing. kaylee and kennedy weren't as good, but definitely not the worst. i guess their vocals make up for it.

it's 8:30 am right now and if we made it into the top 50, we should get a call within the next two and a half hours.
i've stayed friends with the four girls i met the first day and i'm developing a great friendship with nicolette. we've been talking about how i favor michael and she favors jay and how they're best friends and we're best friends, and it would be sick if you know... stuff happened. but a little later in time. but for now, today, all we are all focusing on is getting into the top 50. the five of us decided to meet in kennedy's room during the time the calls were being made. and after we would go get breakfast, hopefully a celebratory breakfast. i put on some socks, through my hair into a ponytail, put on my glasses since i'm too lazy to put on my contacts, and head to kennedy's room.
our moms have also become friends too which is nice. they are all in mine and my mom's room right now freaking out together.
when i get to kennedy's room i say hi to everyone and go under the covers, it's still too early in the morning for me. since we have to wait for two hours, we decide to watch some boyband. ellie decides on the episode with reverb. i cry every time the rehearsal scene comes on, it's my weakness.
"guys it's so crazy how we met less than a week ago cause i already feel like we've known eachother forever. but it's also kinda annoying because we only know so much about eachother ya know?" i say.
"yeah that's crazy" kaylee says.
"and i was thinking about this before, what are your birthdays?" i ask. i found out that nicolette's is november 2nd, kaylee's is march 16th, kennedy's is september 24th, and ellie's is january 31st.
"when's yours?" nicolette asks.
"july 22nd"
"that's soon! we should definitely do something"
"not gonna lie, i do love a good party. but i wouldn't really know what to do here. also, that's if i'm still here."
"shut up we'll all be here til the end"
"i really freakin hope so"

at around 9:20, we hear a ring. it's ellie's phone. we all whisper scream.
"hello?" she answers.
"uh huh... yeah... oh my god... thank you so much! see you later!" she says as she hangs up.
"1/5 are in! congrats babe!" kennedy says while hugging her and we all pile on.

one by one, more of us are getting called and it's now 10:45. kaylee and i still haven't been called and we are highkey freaking the fuck out.
at 10:56, my phone rings. i answer, shaking.
"hello?"
"hi is this giuliana?"
"yes hi"
"congratulations! you've made the top 50!"
"HOLY... nevermind. oh my thank you so much!"
"you deserved it! meet us down in the meeting room at 7:30pm"
"sounds good, thank you so much!"
HOLY SHIT I MADE IT. but kaylee. kaylee still didnt get a call.
it's now 11 and her phone didn't ring and i hear little sniffles. i pull her in for tight hug, but pull away when i hear her phone ring.
"this is it!" i say beaming.
"hello?" she answers sniffling.
"yes its me... oh no worries... thank you so much!... see you then!" she says while hanging up.
"oh my god they called the wrong kaylee. i feel very bad for that kaylee but damn i was so fucking nervous" she says.
"we were nervous for you but there was no way you werent making it. congrats!!" i say as we all hug her.
"which kaylee did they call?" nicolette asks.
"kaylee poesan. maybe both starting with a p confused him? i don't know." kaylee responds.
"crap... i don't even know who that is. there was so many of us!" nicolette says laughing.
"i only remember her because we have the same name." kaylee says laughing too.
i'm so happy we all made it through. me and my four new bestfriends. as we walk to the elevator to go downstairs to get breakfast, i get a text. it's from my mom.

momma : hey babes, how'd you girls do?
momma : stupid question. obviously well you guys are rock stars 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 sorry i can't call rn, saying goodbye to moms. come back to our room when you are done with breakfast, i have to see my girl after her win❤
giuliana : lol we all made it! we just went down to get food. should be back in a half hour . 💞

right when i put my phone away, i get another text, it's from michael and my heart skips a beat. actually 5 beats, but that's besides the point.
"bro why are you smiling like a five year old on christmas? who texted you? " nicolette says laughing, but then she realizes. "OHHHH nevermind" we both laugh.
"what??? you better fill me in while we're eating." ellie says.
"will do"
i read the text and it says

michael : hey jules
how did this morning go? ik u got in did the rest of you friends?
giuliana : hey michael! we have to hangout soon!
giuliana : howd you know i got in? did someone post it somewhere? i dont think people are supposed to know
giuliana : oh shit
michael : no silly i know you got because you're so extremely talented and there's no way you couldn't have
giuliana : you scared the shit out of me omg😂
giuliana : all five of us got in. lil scare with kaylee tho bc they called the wrong kaylee originally and told her she got in by accident 😬
michael : oh man that's horrible😂 good for kaylee tho i'm glad she didnt leave i wouldn't wanna see you so sad
giuliana : aw you're cute but i'm so happy she didnt leave since she's one of the first people i've met here. and one of four of my only friends i have here😂😂 i hardly spoke to the rest of the girls yet
michael : wb me and the guys? we arent your friends?😢
giuliana : no no u guys are dw! i mean in the same competition as me
michael : oh good. anyway, i have rehearsal right now since we have the show later and then something after idek what
michael : have fun today! ❤
giuliana : i have to record the show! i have a meeting thing so i wont be able to watch it live. good luck tn i know you'll kill it! first live show! 💞💞
michael : yes and i'm shitting my pants lmao😂 my group is dope tho so it should be good
giuliana : thats good text me when its over and tell me who went home. i'll come and say bye to them
michael : sounds good

once i put my phone away, i see my friends are already eating.
"thanks for waiting i feel the love" i say laughing.
"sorry you were a little distracted by michael" nicolette says smirking and i roll my eyes.

as we are eating, i tell the rest of the girls what's been happening with michael. well actually i don't even know what's happening. but we've been talking and hang out. nicolette already knows and she's also been talking to jay more. i'm so happy for her! i've gotten kind of close with jay, he's a really nice good guy. he's kind of fitting the role of my little brother since he's like three years younger than me. he told me he's starting to like nicolette but i'm not sure if she realizes yet. i wish i knew what michael thinks though. i know he's been really sweet but i don't know what his intentions are. i don't know if he's just being flirty or if he actually likes me. really hoping it's the second one though.

once we finish breakfast, we all head back to our own rooms. i spend the rest of the day with my mom since i haven't seen her too much this week. i tell her about michael and she tells me she thinks that he's returning the favor. i really hope she's right. we also facetime my dad and my brother and tell them i got into the top 50 and about my new friends. my brother tells me he got a job for the summer at an ice cream place near us. he wanted some extra money to save for a new car. he's 19 now, and going into his second year of college. his college now allows cars and he's been trying to find his dream car.
my mom and i spend the rest of the day in our room and catch up. i missed my momma.
