chapter 11

"five four three two" a man says to start the show.
"hello everybody, im rita ora and i'm your host. here we have music legends, nick carter of the backstreet boys, emma bunton of the spice girls and award winning producer, timbaland!" rita says introducing everyone.
"one hundred auditioned, only thirty are left." a quick clip of all of us play of our audition for top 50.
"and they are here tonight to perform for a once in a life time audition. who will be in your next girl group?" the camera points towards us and goes down the line.
"nick, what are you looking for in this next girl group?" rita asks.
"i'm looking for a group with passion and strong vocals." nick answers. not gonna lie, i'm not the biggest nick carter fan, but i'll have to deal.
"and you emma?" rita says.
"i'm looking for a group with a strong bond and connection."
"timbo?" rita asks.
"i'm looking for the next big thing. i want to hear amazing tones and wide ranges."
i really freaking hope i don't collapse while performing. rita ora and timbaland? i don't know how i'll be able to stand.
"here we have our first girl, katy jouelle." as shes walking up, they play a small clip of her singing at the beach with a few of her friends i'm guessing.
she sings best song ever by one direction. her vocals weren't amazing but she does have pretty good stage presence.

one by one, girls keep going up and auditioning. most of the girls are amazing. a few girls share their story.
the next girl up is nicolette. the music starts to play and i hear that she's singing stay with me by sam smith.
once she ends the song, the architects look blown away.
"give it up for nicolette stone everybody!" rita yells and we all cheer.
"wow your vocals are fantastic. you sound so mature, how old are you?" emma asks.
"i'm fourteen" nic says smiling.
"wow you're amazing, and you're so young. imagine how you're going to sound when you're 16." emma says smiling.
"thank you." nic replies.

"last to perform, we have 16 year old giuliana rissani." rita says.
as i walk up, my video starts to play. an old picture of me my brother, nick, and my other brother, joe, appear on the screen. a recording of my voice starts to play. the video switches between pictures of me and my brothers and just me talking.
"my brothers and i have always been super close, attached at the hip... my parents always said we're eachothers life long best friends and no matter what, we will always be stuck together. and i guess we just grew up being eachothers bestfriends. of course we fought occasionally, but always made up before we went to sleep. in 2013, my brother joseph was diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer. he was doing well with the treatment for a couple months and he felt good too. and then, something took a turn for the worst. we don't know what happened, he just wasn't responding well to the treatment and it wasn't doing anything for him. the cancer got worse and," i stop and let a tear roll down my face. i've never been able to talk about this without crying, so i never talk about it. it took so much of me to be able to share this. part of me doesn't even know why i am.
"and he passed away in early 2014. i do everything i can to make him proud. i know he's watching over my family and i. i love you joe." and the clip turns off and the song starts.

say you'll be my nightingale" as i end the song, i open my eyes and i see all the girls standing and applauding and i see emma wiping away a tear. rita comes up to me and gives me a hug then puts her arm around me.
"wow giuliana, that was unbelievable. architects?" rita says.
"you must be so strong. i'm so sorry you had to go through that. your performance was so touching and i could feel all the emotions. i know your brother would be proud." emma says and i silently thank her.
"you're tone is flawless. the emotion you brought to this song was so real. i could see you going far, maybe to the end." timbaland says and my eyes light up with happiness.
when i go back to my seat, i get a huge hug from nicolette, kaylee and ellie.
"that was amazing. you gave it more than your all." kaylee says.
"if you ever want to talk, you know where i am." nic says.
"what a night, so much talent. now, each of the architects will be calling up a couple of girls and ask them to do something. tim, who do you have that you want to call up?"rita says.
"miss ariana and miss jamie. i want you girls to freestyle, you gotta make it up." timbaland says and the two girls run up. they both rap, and they're both really good. but i personally think ariana is a little better.
"fantastic girls." timbaland says.
"emma, do you have?"
"yes i do. can nicolette stone and giuliana rissani please come?" emma says. we silently squeal, squeeze eachothers hands and run up.
"you girls were both amazing, but i want to see how you can do an upbeat song. live while we're young by one direction?" emma says. we do about half of the song. we sing and dance around onstage. when we finish the song, we run to hug eachother and rita comes with us.
"that's how it's done girls! you guys have great energy together!" emma says and we thank her and go back to our seats. nick picks six girls and teaches them a dance to one of his songs.
"now, the architects will compare notes and create our top 18. we will be right back." rita says as it cuts to a commercial.
i can't even look at the architects because i'm so nervous i just turn my back to them and talk to the people around me. i feel like i did very well with my performance, but so did so many other girls. i guess we just have to wait and see.
