A book is always the start of a good night.
You smiled at the pages and giggled at the content; The clock slowly ticked and ticked in your room.
You've been up for a while, not even knowing what time it was. The castle was at rest, as you know that all Paladins and Alteans were in a deep, peaceful slumber. But not you, of course. You were such a nerd for books and can't resist reading one every night.
Just as you were about to turn the next page, a knock came upon your door. You paused and glanced up, as a puzzled look formed on your face, thinking who could be up at this hour.
You murmured a soft 'come in'. The door slid open to reveal the shadow of the mullet head.
"Keith?" You spoke softly. You set the book down and climb out of your bed to walk towards the red paladin. No response came out of the boy.
"What's the matter?" You questioned, concern filling your voice. The boy took uneasy steps towards you.
When he reached you, he gently placed his his head on your shoulder. You turned your head and stared at the black locks of his hair.
"I can't." A weak sound croaked from his throat.
"Keith-"
He forced words out louder. "I can't do it anymore [Name]."
You felt the boy tremble against your skin. You brought up your arms and placed your hands softly onto the sides of his arms. He flinched slightly at your touch. You rubbed his arms slowly. He was cold.
Very cold.
"I-I almost got everyone h-hurt and killed today." Keith mumbled and stuttered, while turning his face towards your neck. You could hear him begin to choke on his words.
You wrapped your arms, around the shaking boy. He needs to understand it isn't his fault.
The sobs coming out of Keith broke into a louder noise. "I can't even pilot the Black Lion, Shiro's Gone, I'm part Galra, We can't do it, I-"
You felt the boy grip your clothes, and began to slid down. The feeling of Keith shutting down terrified you. Quickly, you rushed to hold him up but he kept falling.
Soon you were standing before, a kneeling heartbroken paladin.
Keith was gripping your shirt so hard, his knuckles began to turn white. The boy sobbed softly into your stomach. You could feel your shirt getting drenched with his tears.
You placed your hands on the side of his face, trying to bring it up, but Keith resisted.
"Look at me." You softly demanded, trying not to raise your voice. Scaring the boy, more than he already was, would do you no good.
Keith ignored you and pressed further into your stomach, as he wrapped his arms around your legs.
You could hear the red paladin repeatedly mumble 'We can't form Voltron' and 'We can't do it' over and over again. His nails began to dig into the skin of your legs, but you didn't mind.
