I gasped for breath, my eyes were wide with fear.
I was back in the Testing room, with the doctor's surrounding me. They talked quietly amongst one another, as they unhooked the machine for me. I couldn't move, my body felt heavy as if I was filled with sand. I tried to move my arms, only to groan in pain; looking down I saw shocked to find cuts and scratches littering my arms and legs. What happened?
"Wh – What happened?" I mumbled out.
None of the other doctors acknowledged my presence. They all ignored me, as if I wasn't there. A shadow fell over me and I strained my eyes to meet with a pair of icy blue ones. Repulsion raged through my body at the sight of Talia, the lady who introduces us to the Testing. She had a smug look to her as she looked down on my, like I was some kind of animal that was to be dissected and studied."My, it seems like you've went and gotten yourself hurt." Talia said, running her fingers over the newly formed wounds, she glanced at me before digging her finger nails deep inside the cuts. I stifled a scream and tears as she extracted her nails from my leg.
"Someone come bandage her up, Aris wants to see her in his office." Talia instructed, wiping her hands on my shirt. Doctors were very quick to do as she told them to do. I watched her walk away from my table, the doctors worked on my legs and belly in attempts to bandage and heal the broken skin.
A doctor came into view, in her hand was a syringe, "Don't worry now Addieca, we'll fix you right up." She told me before she picked up my arm and pushed the needle deep into my arm. I felt my body slump against the table, but instead of falling into unconsciousness, I was wide awake, but I my whole body felt numb.I heard footsteps coming my way and I strained my eyes to find who had come into the room.
"Talia said that you would be here for another hour!" Cried one of the doctors as he tried to throw a thin blanket over my torn-up legs and stomach.
Aris didn't say anything, he just moved passed the doctor and gently threw off the blanket. He observed the cuts and gashes that littered my stomach and legs, before his eyes met mine."How did this happen?" Aris said through clenched teeth.
"During the simulation... something happened during the Test and her vitals started to drop to an alarming rate to the point where we thought that she wasn't going to make it through." He paused for a moment calculating his next couple of words. "But the machine started overload and her vitals started to rise and before we knew it, she started to hurt herself, her hands stated to tear at her stomach and legs, until we had to pull her out of the simulation before it could end. I am very sorry that we pulled her out before the Testing could end." The doctor said solemnly, he didn't dare meet Aris's eyes.
"You did the right thing." Aris spoke, he brushed his hand against my legs and I felt fear run through my body at the thought of not being able to feel my legs and the monitor beside me spiked.
Aris pulled his hand away from my leg in an instant, his cheeks were flushed. I let out a little whine and in my ears, it sounded pathetic and tears clouded my eyes.
"Can she feel pain right now?" Aris asked, his eyes wide with surprise.
"No, we numbed her body so we could fix her wounds, but she can still see and hear us." The doctor explains to Aris, who just nodded.
"Okay, okay, I'll let you guys do what you need to do. I'll be back when you're done with the critical wounds." Aris said, his voice was like iron and he moved away from the doctor. As he walked passed, I saw him reach out and touch the top of my head; he leaned down next to my ear and whispered, "Get well soon, Addieca." And he composed himself before walking out of the room.
I followed Aris with my eyes and I found myself wanting him to stay close.
"You'll be fine, Addieca. Go to sleep and when you wake up, you'll be good as new." The doctor said, and I could already feel myself falling into a deep sleep.
