My father was buried four days ago and I was still floating around the house like a ghost. I ignored all of my responsibilities and I hid in my room most of the day only to come out to get food or make sure Orion's scrapes weren't infected. I knew I should have thrown him out, but I couldn't bring myself to, I couldn't be alone. He wasn't doing anything to help, he would just sit quietly and watch me float around, not saying a single thing. One of the mornings I was rubbing rubbing alcohol on him when I decided to ask him how he knew my name.
He replied rather slowly, thinking about his next words in advance, "Your father thought I was you and he called me your name."
I nodded and we both fell silent. I didn't ask anymore questions, my gaze slowly drifted from Orion to my dad's room. I can't keep it all. I need to sell some of his things. I wrapped him up and moved towards the door of my dad's room. I couldn't smell him anymore; it was like he was never there, like everything I had lived and worked for was stolen away from me. It took me only thirty minutes for me to clear out his room, half of his items lay broken in a heap on the ground. I had got so mad, so angry but to my surprise I wasn't angry at Orion or myself, but at my dad; he told me he was going to keep on living and that he would never leave me alone, but look what he did. He left me alone to fend for myself. There was one thing I couldn't destroy no matter how hard I tried, his memory. It wouldn't leave my mind no matter how hard I tried to forget.
The things I didn't destroy I shoved in a bag. Orion was again sitting on his make-shift bed watching me as I dragged the garbage through the living room and out the back door. I left Orion sitting in the bed and went outside to the barn; I saddled one of the horses and I tied the sack to the horse's saddle.
"Where are you going?" Orion was right behind me, his eyebrows knitted together.
"Everlost." Was all I said and I slung my leg up over the horse's back.
He stood in my way, "You can't go without me."
"Why should I bring you?" I asked, my hands clenching tightly to the horse's reins, I had to keep myself from reaching down and slapping him.
Orion shrugged, "Because I want too." He looked determined to come with me and I was too tired to fight back.
I admitted defeat, "Fine, but hurry I want to get home early."
He saddled up the last horse in record time and we were out in the wasteland by the time the sun was all the way into the sky. The ride was silent and I wanted it that way, my head was pounding against my skull. I cast a sideways glance at Orion, who was at the moment watching the sky.
"It's going to rain soon."
"It doesn't rain in the summer." i said briskly.
I could feel his eyes on me and we fell quiet. The heat burned through my clothes and down to my skin as the day went on and Orion and I were whipping sweat from out eyes every minute or so.
We saw the dark silhouette of the buildings in the distance and my heart rose slightly. I nudged my horse forward, to move faster then the pace we were going. I wanted to get in and get out. People crowded the the streets and they moved out of our way when we came trotting through the streets; they're eyes slid from me to Orion who-unsurprisingly-caught everyone's attention. he rode up along side me and leaned over to whisper to me.
"Why are all these people watching me?"
"Because they can tell that you're not from around here."
He only said, "Oh." before he fell back.
