I snuck up behind someone and knocked them out. I took their gun and knocked out the others. I heard Steve's voice come on the intercom and saw people running towards me. I shot at two and kicked at the others. The others that I kicked down fell into the water.
The water around me started to drain and I moved back. Helicarriers rose and the fighting began. I ran around, knocking men out and throwing them around like rag dolls. Sam helped get the ones in the sky and did his job.
I got caught up and someone was now throwing me around like a rag doll. Steve came out of nowhere and the man threw me. I sat up and aimed at the guy, shooting his leg in one shot and him tumbling into the once pond.
"I told you to be careful," Steve said, picking me up. I shrugged.
"I had him," I told him. He set me down on my feet and smiled. "Just go do your job, soldier." Steve hesitated then hurried to the next helicarrier.
The fighting went on for awhile, then the last helicarrier was starting to fall. The helicopter came down for me, but I told them to go. I ran into the trees once I saw it falling. I saw Steve fall and I covered my mouth, feeling the tears well up. I was on the opposite side so I couldn't get to him.
Once the helicarrier fell, I rushed to the area, my heels on the verge of breaking. I finally got to the side and saw Steve on the bank. His face was beat up and he was hurt from something, I didn't know. I called for Natasha and everyone and tried to pull Steve up.
The helicopter picked me and Steve up and I put pressure on the wound. I whispered for him not to leave me and Natasha pulled me away. I hugged her tightly and silently cried. I squeezed her blue dress and pulled myself together. I pulled away and Natasha wiped my eyes.
"Be strong," she whispered, her hands on my head. I nodded and suffocated the tears.
We got to the hospital and Steve went into a room. No one would tell me what was going on with Steve. Sam pointed out a wound on my right arm.
"You're bleeding!" He said with worry in his voice. I looked down at my arm and back at him.
"When did this happen?" I asked.
"Call a nurse!" Sam yelled. He examined my arm.
A nurse took me into a shared room and sowed it up. She wrapped it and let me free. I took off my heels and jacket and walked into Nycole's room.
"You saved me," she whispered.
"You're my best friend, Nycole. I had to save you," I replied. She pointed to my arm and looked confused.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Fighting," I answered. She nodded.
"Where's Steve?" She asked. I looked down at my feet and bit my lip.
"He got...injured," I whispered.
"Is he okay?" She sat up and turned on the news for background sound. I nodded.
"I think so. They haven't said anything to me," I answered.
"Go find him," she said.
"I've got to make sure you're okay first," I replied.
"I'm fine. Go."
I hesitated then hugged her. I changed into my black dress again and walked barefoot to Steve's room. Sam was in there, sitting in the chair to Steve's right. Both were sleeping. I walked in and kissed Steve's forehead, then left the room. I went back to Nycole's room and laid in a chair, feeling exhausted.
I woke up a few hours later and Nycole was asleep. I got up and walked down to Steve's room again. Sam was gone and Steve seemed to be awake. I walked in and looked at Steve.
"Is this a good time?" I asked. He nodded. I sat on the bed and looked down at my hands. "I should've told you to be careful," I whispered. Steve chuckled and grabbed my hand.
"I told you to be careful," Steve whispered. "Is your arm okay?" I breathed out a yes and closed my eyes. Steve pulled me down to him and kissed my forehead.
"I watched you fall," I whispered. "I thought you were dead."
"How'd I get here then?" he asked.
"Someone brought you on the shore and I called the helicopter to pick us up," I said.
"All I remember is me saying that he was my friend and he replied with 'you're my mission', then hit me. I told him to finish it," he seemed to smile as he spoke the next part. "'Because I'm with you till the end of the line.'"
"Sounds like a tattoo," I whispered. Steve chuckled and had me turn to face him. I cuddled up to him. "I didn't want to lose you."
"You wouldn't," he murmured.
"I thought I would," I told him. I sighed and smiled. "Sometimes before it gets better, the darkness gets bigger. The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger." I sat up and caressed his cheek. "Natasha told me to be strong." I fixed his hair and sighed. "Nycole is fine by the way," I said.
"Great," Steve said. "I was wondering if she would show up with you."
"No, she'll show up soon, though," I giggled.
Just then, Nycole walked in. She wore different clothes and had her hair curly. She sat on the opposite side of the bed and smiled at me.
"Are you ready to go?" Nycole asked. I shook my head, no, but still got up. "I'll meet you at Michelle's car. I'm going to speak to Steve for a moment."
I kissed Steve's cheek and left the room, heading to Michelle's. Natasha called after me. I turned before the door and smiled at her.
"What are your plans?" she asked.
"Move around here and maybe go into hiding," I said.
"Why?" she questioned.
"I feel like it's necessary after all this. I need to figure out what's next for me," I said. She nodded.
"Keeping in touch with others?" I shook my head. "Why not?"
"Trust no one," I whispered.
"Well, you can always trust us," she said. I nodded and shook her hand.
"Thank you," I said. I turned back and got into Michelle's car.
She didn't ask any questions. Just kept to herself.
Nycole got into the backseat and handed me a note. She told Michelle to drive, which she did, and the car was silent. I read the note then put it in my pocket. I decided not to ask Nycole what was with it.
