Chapter Thirteen
Law is really boring. There is nothing to do in it. Please remind me why I chose the damn subject? All we do is sit there talking about the new laws that the governments have put into action. The main on being the Smoking ban on public places. Sure smoking is horrible, but do they have to drill it into my mind?
My phone in my pocket started vibrating, making me jump in surprise. I took it out and glanced at the screen, trying to not get caught. I'm eighteen so they can't take it off me, but it is a bit disrespectful.
Crawshawbooth Primary School
Lit up on my screen, I got up and answered it. The time was only half eleven, why were they ringing me? My heart started racing at the thought of Mia being injured and hurt.
As I stepped out the door I talked into my Samsung, “Hello.”
“Miss Porter, your daughter has been involved in a case of bullying this morning at break time, would you be able to come and pick her up?” their secretary asked me down the phone.
I thought for two seconds, could I just walk out of college after missing so much time? My mum needed to work so I best do, I don't earn much money at the moment, only the benefits I get for Mia, so we need my mum's income. “Yes, I will be there in half an hour, I’m at college at the moment.”
“Thank you, I will tell her now.”
I put down the phone and walked back into the classroom, they all know what has just happened recently, so I know that they won’t lecture me about just walking out. Didn't stop me feeling guilty though.
“Sir, something has happened with Mia so I really need to go, sorry,” I winced as his face turned to anger slightly.
He sighed, “Georgie, can anyone else not do it? You really need to be here, your exams aren’t far off.” He asked, sounding sweeter than his face was. I was just counting my stars that I wasn’t in with Rachel, as I would be stood there for hours arguing with her why my daughter is more important than my education. Johnathan is my best teacher, he just teaches the worst subject.
I shook my head, “No sorry, my mum is at work, can I just have some notes from the rest of the lesson and I will do the work at home?” I wondered as I walked back to my seat and picked up my stuff, placing my notes so far and pencil case into my bag.
“Fine,” he huffed, writing down something on a piece of paper. I wondered over to his desk and picked up the notes. “I will see you tomorrow will I Miss Porter?” he pondered and I nodded my head, making him smile. I glanced at his notes and saw that he had just written a couple of websites with 'answer the questions off there' on it. I sighed as I placed it in my bag as well.
I drove back up to Rossendale to pick up my daughter, trying to get there in a hurry. I was so worried about this happening; I mean kids can be so mean. It’s not like it’s her fault why she has lost eye sight in one eye is it?
I drove into their crappy car park and stormed out. I entered the green fence enclosure that they have surrounded the whole school in and pressed the buzzer at the entrance. “Hello, who is it?” the voice on the phone asked.
“It’s Mia’s mum,” I told her.
The door opened and I wondered in, to see Mia sat there with her head in her hands with tears escaping her eyes. I ran over to her immediately and brought her into my embrace. “Are you okay honey?” I asked, knowing the answer already.
She shook her head against my chest, “No mummy, Daina Pierce was calling me mean names,” she choked and I stood up furious.
“Wait there for two secs baby,” I told her as I walked over to the woman in the office.
“I want to know why this Daina Pierce’s mum isn’t here taking her bitch of a daughter away,” I demanded coldly.
She looked at me in surprise, “Will you remember where you are when you use words like that, and they are just children, it will all be forgotten tomorrow,” she told me. What a cow!
“Does this look like it will be forgotten tomorrow? My daughter is sat there crying her eyes out because some kid has been mean to her! Is it her fault why some idiot rammed into the car? No it's not. She shouldn't be treated as an outsider because of it!” I screamed in anger. “And I’ve had to come out of college to take her out of school because your incompetent teachers can do naff all!”
“Please can you take your daughter and leave, this situation will be sorted out tomorrow.”
My hands were shaking as I picked up Mia, “Even when I attended this shit hole it was crap.” I finished as I stormed out of the building annoyed.
