Chapter 33: Our Separate Ways
Marcel's POV
I wondered how I should tell Allie the big news. You're probably thinking that I was seeking revenge, that I had an ultimate plan that would bring Adam to his knees--but no, that wasn't the big news.
Allie and I were already a couple of the most popular kids in school. Shocking, I know. Everyone thought Allie and I were over, but when they saw us together again, they tore Adam down from his throne again for us. I felt kind of bad for the guy, but at the same time, not really.
No, my news were much bigger than that. In fact, I was kind of scared how Allie would react. It was too late to turn back now, so I had to tell her. I would do it after graduation.
I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror. I couldn't see myself thoroughly, so I stood on the bathroom tub's sides.
I felt kind of ridiculous wearing dark blue robes with a dress shirt and pants underneath, but those were the requirements. The hem of my robe extended over my shoes. The cap covered the top of my head, but my curls still pressed against the back of my neck and forehead. They itched.
"Marcel!" my mother yelled. "Let mummy see you!"
I rolled my eyes and jumped down from the bathtub. I clambered down the stairs and was immediately intercepted by my mother. Her hands flew to her mouth.
"Marcel, you look dashing," she breathed. She squeezed me in a hug. "I'm so proud of you!" she sobbed.
"Mum, please don't start crying," I pleaded. "If you start crying, I'll start crying, and then we'll be in a huge mess."
She smiled and nodded, rubbing her fists against her eyes. "I need to get a picture," she gasped out. "Where's Allie? She needs to see you like this."
I didn't bother telling her that Allie was wearing the exact same thing I was, so there wasn't much difference. "She's coming over soon," I told my mother. "We're driving together."
My mother had bought me a car for graduation. It felt pretty awesome, and the car was pretty awesome as well. I was excited to drive it anywhere I liked. Anywhere.
The doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" my mother yelled, making me jump.
"You go do that," I said, holding my ears tenderly.
"Hello, Allie," I heard my mother greet. "How are you?"
"I'm excited and nervous," Allie replied. "What about you?"
"Trying my hardest not to cry over the fact that my little baby's growing up!"
I raced over to the door so my mother didn't embarrass me. Too late, Allie was already laughing.
"Thanks for making me feel a bit better, Mrs. Styles," she said.
"You're welcome, dear," my mother replied, although I could tell she was entirely clueless. "Come on in! I have to take a picture of both of you!"
"My mother already took so many photos," Allie groaned. "I'm nearly blind from the flash!"
"Don't worry, I'll turn the flash off," my mother assured her.
"Yay," she muttered under her breath, and I smirked a little at her.
"You look great, Marcel," she told me, linking her arm through mine.
"Thanks," I said. "You do too."
"Of course I do. We look almost exactly alike!"
We both laughed and went into the living room, where my mother was waiting. She held up her camera and grinned at us.
