Chapter 28: Prom Night Is Nuts

(a/n: this is very unrealistic, but just bear with me here, okay? Prom is TONIGHT; don't judge me. Thank you! Enjoy the chappie! PS, happy belated Saint Patrick's Day! :))

Allie's POV

"What am I going to do, Marcel?" I sighed, collapsing down on his bed.

We were hanging out again, this time in private. After the close call at the mall, we didn't want to go anywhere public for a while.

"Everyone has a date to prom except for me!" I exclaimed. "And you. Um, no offense."

"None taken," Marcel murmured. "It's true, after all."

"Rachel and Hanna will never let me live this down," I moaned. "The most popular girl in school doesn't have a date to prom. How embarrassing!"

"It'll be okay," Marcel reassured me.

I looked up at him. "How do you know that? You've never been to prom before! You're not popular!"

I winced. That sounded mean. Before I could take back what I said, Marcel nodded. "That's all true," he acknowledged again. "But it will be okay."

"How?" I asked pleadingly. "How will it be okay?"

Marcel's eyes flicked around the room, looking at everything but me. He shuffled his feet into the ground.

"Um," he mumbled. "I-I was thinking... wondering... if you... I...."

I frowned. "What is it, Marcel? Spit it out!"

"I was w-wondering if... you wanted... t-to go to prom... um, with... with someone.... You know...."

My brow creased in confusion. What was he trying to get at here? I could barely understand him. Then it dawned on me.

"Marcel, are you asking me to prom?" I asked incredulously.

His face turned beet red and he looked down. "You don't have to, if you don't want to. I understand. I mean, I'm just a nerd and you're popular...."

I opened my mouth to tell him no, I wasn't going to prom with him. But wait. I paused. Why not? We were just friends. He could go and get the prom experience, and I would be crowned queen. We could disguise him or something so nobody would recognize him. It would be perfect!

"Okay," I said. "I'll go to prom with you. Thanks, Marcel, you're a life-saver."

He looked utterly shocked that I agreed. I giggled.

"I better go," I said, sliding off Marcel's bed. "I have to look for a dress! You know how prom works and everything, right?"

Marcel swallowed and nodded vigorously. "Yep, I know how it works!" he squeaked.

"Great!" I chirped. "Prom starts at 9:00pm, so I'll come over at 8:30pm. You don't need to pick me up or anything. I'll see you later, Marcel!"

I left his room, nearly with a spring in my step. I trotted down the stairs like this was my second home.

I was so excited! I was going to prom (again), and this time I was going to be crowned queen!

*~*~*~*

Marcel's POV

I knew how prom worked. I'd seen it in the movies. There was music and dancing and flashing lights, and occasionally an after party. That's when things got crazy, but I didn't watch those parts in the movies.

I had a suit from a long time ago, but it still fit me. I put it on and prayed my tie wouldn't clash with Allie's dress. That would be pretty bad.

I raked my fingers through my hair. It was a huge mass of curls again. Without averting my eyes from the mirror, I searched for my gel bottle with my hand. I couldn't find it.
