Chapter 17: I See It Now

Marcel's POV

Allie must've been be really diseased or something. If that was the case, I hoped there wasn't a cure, so she could stay this way forever. She was being so nice to me, it was unnatural. It was almost scary. No, it WAS scary.

I still thought this had to be some kind of trick. No way would Allie be this nice to me of her own free will. She had to be up to something. But if she was, she was hiding her plans very well.

"Okay," Allie proclaimed loudly. "Now that we know each other better, hopefully it'll be easier to work on this song project together. You have the lyrics, right?"

I nodded and took out my lyric book. "We still need a couple more lyrics to get to the chorus," I said. "Once that's done, we'll almost be finished."

Allie grinned excitedly. "Alright, let's get to it," she said, clapping her hands together. "Can... can I see the lyrics?"

I nodded and handed the sheet to her. She took it and scanned it over once. She began to sing.

"I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath," she sang. "Scared to rock the boat and make a mess. So I sit quietly, agreed politely. I guess that I forgot I had a choice, I let you push me past the breaking point. I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything. You held me down, but I got up. Already brushing off the dust. You hear my voice, you hear that sound. Like thunder gonna shake the ground. You held me down, but I got up. Get ready because I've had enough...."

Allie stopped. "That's all we have," she said.

I barely heard her. In my head I was still listening to her voice, singing sweetly. She really was good. I didn't think she would be, but she was. It was astounding, but in a good way.

"Right," I said, forcing the words out. "Do you have any ideas on what the lyrics should be?"

Allie shook her head. "I was hoping you would."

We didn't say anything for a moment. "I guess we could listen to some songs and hope for ideas," Allie suggested.

I nodded. It was the only plan we had, so I went with it. Allie took out her phone and skimmed through the songs. She looked up at me.

"Come over here," she said, patting the space next to her. "I might have some songs you like. Probably doubtful, but you never know."

My heart raced in my chest. Oh my gosh, Allie actually WANTED me to sit next to her! This was amazing, amazingly impossible, that is. What was her plan to bring me down?

I carefully stood up and went over to her. I sat down slowly on the very edge of my bed, just in case I had to get up quickly.

Allie glanced at me again. "Geez, Marcel, relax. I won't bite. You can trust me."

I seriously doubted that. I didn't have any proof that I could trust Allie. She was a bully to me. At least, she had been. What made her change? Or was she faking it? Argh, it was all so confusing!

I scooted back into a more comfortable position, but I was still freaking out mentally. I watched Allie look through her songs. She frowned.

"I can't find any songs that match ours," she said. "We're just too unique. Here, you find something. Just don't break it."

She pressed her phone into my hand. It was warm to the touch. My heart pounded harder than ever, and my breathing was shallow. I wondered what a heart attack felt like.

I swiped my finger across the screen and song titles flew past my eyes. I switched the setting to artists, which was easier for me. I looked through all of them. Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Carly Rae Jepsen, Katy Perry.... Not exactly in that order.
