Chapter 30

*Luke's POV* 

I ran into the hospital "Where's Alex?!" I shouted at the woman behind the reception and she looked at me startled "Are you family?" She asked calmly keeping her eyes on her computer screen "I'm her boyfriend" I told her while trying to stay calm and she nodded her head "I'll let you see her but if anyone asks it wasn't me ok?" I nodded and thanked her before she pointed me in the right direction. I ran down the hall and around the corners dodging people on my way, I got to corridor C and looked in the small windows that were on the doors trying to find Alex. I found her. Her room was empty so her brother must not have gotten the call yet. Her face was dirty and scratched, she had a bandage wrapped around her head and her arm was in a cast. Her eyes were closed and her body was motionless. I gulped and walked into the room, I walked forward to stand beside her bed. Up close I could see the bruises along her legs and down her arms, I couldn't stop the tear that escaped my eyes. I hated seeing her so helpless, I heard the door open and Jacob walked in with bloodshot eyes sipping from the polystyrene cup in his hands "What the fuck are you doing here?" I spat and he looked up startled, he was a mess "Someone had to be here, I can leave if you like" My fists were balled up at my sides "I think you better" I growled and he grabbed the coat I didn't notice on the back of the chair and left "I'm sorry, man" He spoke softly before he closed the door. I turned back to Alex, he did this to her, I brought a chair forward and sat next to her bed and held her hand in mine kissing her knuckles "I love you" I whispered, her motionless body unresponsive. Minutes went by and her brother still wasn't here but a doctor entered the room with a clipboard "You're Alex's boyfriend yes?" I looked up at the doctor who was standing at the end of the bed and nodded "I'm sorry I didn't come to see you earlier" I shook my head "It's fine" I croaked out "We ran some tests" Those words made my full attention turn to the doctor "Is she going to be ok?" The words fell from my mouth too fast and the doctor looked at me, his eyes sypathetic "The car hit her spine on impact" Tears spilled from my eyes and I shook my head "I'm afraid she'll be paralyzed from the waist down" I broke down. My body was shaking, my head fell limp. "There is a small chance she can regain movement but I'm afraid that is highly unlikely" I couldn't bring myself to say anything "She will probably be asleep for the next few hours since we gave her a lot of painkillers to make her more comfortable" I nodded "I'm sorry sir" I nodded and he gave me a sympathetic smile before leaving the room. I looked up at her face, she was peaceful and content. I stroked her cheek as she slept, tears still streaming down my own. 

Her brother showed up about an hour after the doctor had been in but only stayed for 10 minutes before he apparently had to go. He was no use to her. Her mum didn't make an appearance either and I was happy she at least had me and didn't wake up to an empty room. She still hadn't even twitched, a nurse came in to take her blood pressure and all that. She just kept smiling at me as I sat there just watching Alex not wanting to miss her waking up. When the nurse left I got up to kiss her forehead feeling how cold she was "I'll be right here when you wake up. I'll be right here when you have to go to physiotherapy and any other shit you might need" I whispered and kissed her forehead once more. I sat back down and held her hand between mines not wanting to let her go. I rested my head on the side of her bed. I closed my eyes for a small minute. I felt a hand running through my hair and my eyes opened and I bolted upright "You're awake" I stated the obvious and Alex gave me a weak smile "I am" Her throat sounded dry and I grabbed the water bottle from the table and put a straw in it "Here" I held the straw to her lips and she sipped from the bottle. She was watching me for a minute "The doctor came in" My heart started beating faster "He was?" She just nodded "While you were asleep" I rubbed my eyes and run my hand through my hair "How long was I out?" She shrugged "I've been awake for about an hour but I don't know how long you were out" I nodded "I know Luke" I met her eyes, those beautiful eyes that were usually sparkling were dull and glossed over "What do you mean? You know what?" I knew exactly what she meant I just had to be sure "I know I'm paralysed Luke! I know I'm helpless and you're probably done with me!" She screamed at me and started crying, I rushed to her side, wrapped my arms around her body the best I could without hurting her "I'm not going to throw you away like a broken toy. I'm going to stay with you for as long as I live. I love you so much and this won't change that" I whispered, she had wrapped her arms right around my body, holding onto my shirt for her life "What about...the bedroom" She whispered and I chuckled a little "That doesn't matter. As long as I'm with you everyday for the rest of our lives I don't care about that" I knew she was smiling even though her face was buried in the crook of my neck "Luke I'm going to have to pee in a bag! I don't want you to give up your life just so you can nurse me" She sobbed into my neck and I held her closer "I'd give up anything if it meant I get to keep you" She pulled back and looked at me with those big eyes then pressed her lips to mine. There was a salty taste from both our tears "We'll make it through. Together" I promised her and she nodded.

*1 Week Later*

Alex was finally getting home today after being hospitalised for a week. She had to go to all sorts of therapy and get treatment. She wasn't in pain anymore, she just had bruises and almost healed cuts, some that would scar and her broken arm so it meant I had to push her around in her wheelchair until her arm healed. I didn't mind, we would always get in trouble for running up and down the corridors. She was back to her chirpy self, even with all the physio and adaptions she'd have to make. We were still in Florida so I booked a flight for tonight so we can go home as soon as possible. I already cleared it with the doctors and the guys have been worried about her. She packed everything I went and picked up from her brother's house before we signed all the discharge papers. I pushed her down the corridor and through the doors into the warm Florida air "It feels so good" Alex whispered as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath "We'll be home soon" I whispered as I leaned down to kiss the top of her head.

We were boarding the plane, I had to carry her bridal style to her seat because they took the wheelchair "This is embarrassing" She whispered while she hid her face in my chest. She hadn't been out in public much so she didn't like it when people would look at her "It's fine. They think it's cute" I shrugged and I heard her laugh a little. I sat her down and put our bags in the holders above us and sat in my own seat "I'm happy we're going home" She whispered and I nodded "So am I" She rested her head on my shoulder and I snaked my arm around her waist to pull her closer "You'll be living in my house by the way, the boys already picked up all your stuff" I told her. I knew she would try and object so I phoned the boys and told them to go and get everything "I can't. I'll be a burden on you all" I shook my head. I can't believe she could think that "The boys are excited. You're definitely not a burden" She smiled and leaned up to kiss me "I love you" She whispered before she snuggled into my chest. I smiled to myself "I love you" I told her even though she was already asleep.
