"Jodie! It's time for bed!" I shouted from the kitchen as I walked into the living room to see Brad playing with Jodie, neither of them heard me shout so I just stood in the doorway watching. It looked like they were having a teddy bears picnic. "Would you like another cup of tea?" Jodie asked in a cute posh voice before pouring the fake liquid into Brad's tea cup and the bears tea cups, I giggled at this quietly and smiled. "Would you like a cup of tea Jodie?" Brad asked and she nodded as Brad picked up the plastic kettle and poured the fake liquid into the cup. Brad then noticed that I was standing by the door and smiled at me. "Having fun?" I asked and Jodie ran over to hug my legs again. "Yeah! Brad is playing with me." Jodie exclaimed and Brad winked at me as my cheeks turned a little bit red. "That's nice, but I'm afraid it's time for bed now." I explained and a sad look spread across her little face. "Will Brad be here tomorrow?" She asked. "Yes, he will be here all week." I explained and crouched down to her level. "Can Brad take me to bed?!" She asked and I looked up at him, he looked quite nervous as he has obviously never put a child to bed before. "How about he watches you go to bed?" I asked, that way Brad is still in the room but he doesn't have to do anything. "Ok!" She exclaimed as she ran up the stairs to get her pjs on.
"Thank you." I said and stood up from my crouched position. "For what?" He asked and stood up from his seat on the floor. "Playing with her, she seems to really like you." I said and Brad nodded as he walked closer to me. "Yeah, she's a nice girl. Just like you." Brad said and I looked down at the floor before turning around and walking up the stairs to help Jodie, Brad followed behind me and I walked into Jodie's room to see she was already dressed. "Wow! You got dressed all by yourself?!" I exclaimed and Jodie nodded, looking proud of herself. "Good girl, I just have one little issue though." I commented. "What?" She asked. "You put your top on backwards." I said and giggled as she looked down at her top and sighed, Brad also giggled and stood in the doorway. I pulled her arms out of the sleeves and spun the top around so it was the right way before putting her arms back in the sleeves, she then climbed into bed and sat upright before looking at me. "What's wrong baby girl?" I asked as I covered up her legs with the duvet. "I can never get that right." She said while looking disappointed with herself. "You will one day, I promise." I said and kissed her head before she laid down and I tucked her up properly. "Goodnight." I said and kissed her head again and switched her little lamp on. "Is Brad going to say goodnight?" She asked and I turned around to look at him, he walked over to her bed and crouched down so he was level with her. "Goodnight Jodie, I will see you in the morning." Brad said and stroked her hair a little which seemed to make Jodie very sleepy.
He then stood up and followed me out the room before I closed the door slightly and walked down the stairs, I sat on the floor before starting to tidy up the teddy bears picnic. "You're really good with her." Brad said and I shrugged my shoulders as I placed the teddies back in the box. "You seem better than me." I replied and Brad sat down to help tidy up. "I'm not." Brad said. "You saw the way she was playing with you and the way she wanted you to take her to bed, she loves you!" I said and sighed before throwing a cup in the box, I might have to admit I'm a bit jealous that Jodie likes Brad more than me. "Hey, don't get mad..." Brad said as he folded up the picnic blanket. "I'm not mad." I said and carried the box into the corner of the room where all of the toys were kept. "You seem it." Brad said and placed the blanket on the box before we sat on the sofa. "I just feel like everyone can do everything better than me." I said and Brad placed his hand under my chin lightly before turning my head to face him. "You are better than me with Jodie, it's just that I'm new and she is excited. Give her a few days and she won't want to know me anymore." Brad said. "I wouldn't be so sure of that." I replied.
We then both heard the front door open and some laughing coming from two people. We both looked at each other with confusion as the two people came into view. "Mum?" I asked and she turned around to see me and Brad sitting on the sofa, a man then stood next to mum and I just sighed. "I don't even want to know." I said and just looked down at the floor. "Good, it's none of your business anyway. Who is this?" She asked in a sassy tone and pointed to Brad. "My friend, he is staying this week." I explained. "Ok, well I'm going out tomorrow and I won't be back for a few days, this is my new boyfriend Mark." Mum explained and I just nodded, Brad saw the disappointment on my face and held my hand which was a bad move. "Is this your boyfriend?!" Mum asked as she walked over to us, this was when I fully noticed the dark circles under her eyes and her depressed facial expressions. "No mum, just my friend." I said and let go of Brad hand. "What's his name?" She asked. "Brad..." I said and Brad smiled at her. "Don't you dare hurt her!" Mum said in a raised tone and I stood up in front of her. "Don't shout at him! Just because you got hurt doesn't mean someone is going to come and hurt me. You have no right to shout at him so leave him alone!" I said in a defensive tone, I'm not really sure why I stuck up for him but I just felt like I had to.
