Melanie and I walked down the street together away from the school. Darren had left to go with some of his friends to who knows where. It was Monday and we both had been waiting for the school day to end. Melanie had begged me to walk, apparently she's been dying to walk or go for a run or something. She inhaled deeply through her nose and sighed.

"I hate Mondays." she said stretching her arms.

"Me too." I agreed.

My phone buzzed for the tenth time that day and I pulled it out. It was another text from Reed.

'Hey'

"Is that Reed?" Melanie asked reading my mind.

"Maybe," I said texting back a reply.

"He may be the future alpha of the Nightwalker Pack, but..." she trailed off.

"But?"

She shrugged, "That's it."

I chuckled at her opposition towards Reed. My phone buzzed again.

'where are you? -Reed'

"Oh, text back home alone," Melanie said reading the text over my shoulder.

"No!" I cried.

"Oh, my gosh, you're blushing!" Melanie said laughing.

"Shut up," I muttered.

'walking home with Melanie' I texted back to Reed.

We walked a little farther. The house would be coming up after the next block. Melanie sighed and looked longingly at the trees just past the sidewalk.

"You have no idea what it's like to be a werewolf." Melanie sighed.

"And I never will," I said.

"Sure you will," Melanie said nudging my arm.

"Uh, no I won't." I laughed.

Melanie nodded, "Sure you will. Once Reed mates with you, he'll bite you and you'll turn."

I froze, "What?"

Melanie stopped with me, "You didn't know that?"

"Nope." I said popping the 'p'.

"Oh," Melanie swallowed.

We continued walking in silence. My phone buzzed and I jumped.

'want me to pick you guys up?'

'we're good' I texted back to Reed immediately.

I put my phone on silent and stuffed it back into the pocket. Melanie and I walked in silence until we got to the house. When we got there Melanie watched me walk inside before taking off into the woods at full speed. Inside the house, I walked up the stairs to my room and laid down on my bed. My brain felt like it had just exploded twice then glued back together with crappy glue. Werewolf. Me, a werewolf. If I were a werewolf, I would be the crappiest werewolf ever. I barely make it through the daily runs that Darren and Melanie force me to go on. Blake still rarely ever shows his face. But if I were a werewolf, maybe he would stop hating me. And I wouldn't have to have body guards anymore, people at school would stop hating me. But being a werewolf just to please other people isn't good. It isn't worth becoming a werewolf for. Not that I even want to be a werewolf. Nope, not at all. No,no,no. The doorbell rang and my heart skipped a beat. When my heartbeat returned to normal, I ran downstairs. It was Reed at the door.

"Reed," I said opening up the door wide.

"Hey, Renee." Reed said giving me a small smile.

"You wanna come in?" I asked stepping back.
