Something was shaking me awake. The first thing that popped into my head was Emily. I groaned and pulled the covers over my head as I curled up in a ball.
"Go away, Emily,"I grumbled.
The shaking continued. More violently. Definitely not, Emily. Slowly, I lifted the covers enough for me to get a peek at who was shaking me. Blake. I shot out of bed and scooted away from him.
"Good, you're awake,"he said.
I was about to say something back when he cut me off.
"Breakfast,"Blake said plainly before walking out of my room.
He closed the door softly behind him. I leaned back in bed and rolled over to the side where Melanie was stretched out on the mattress her red hair splayed out over the pillow. She could be a model. She was asleep and it looked like she was in the middle of an amazing photo shoot.
"Melanie,"I whispered nudging her shoulder.
She didn't open her eyes.
"Melanie,"I said poking her with my foot.
"Mel,"
Poke.
"Melanie!"I said loudly shoving her onto the floor.
She groaned, "What?"
"Breakfast,"I said sweetly before brushing my teeth and bounding downstairs.
Melanie grumpily followed behind me. We reached the downstairs kitchen. The back door was wide open and I thought I saw a figure darting into the trees past the pool. Trying to warm myself up, I shut the door closing off the warm kitchen from the cool wind outside.
"Hey, mom."I said sitting down at one of the kitchen stools.
"Breakfast is on the table."mom said gesturing over her shoulder at the counter filled with pancakes and toast before hurrying out of the kitchen.
Melanie yawned and grabbed a plate piling it high with food. We both sat down in the now empty kitchen. We ate in silence, me in silently ruing the day that Blake walked into my life, and Melanie chomping happily away. It took longer than I care to admit for me to realize that it was almost lunch time and that was why Emily wasn't there. She was with my dad, never going out of his sight. He hadn't planned on her leaving his sight when she was born, but now he's never letting her leave his sight until she dies of old age.
"I'm going to go back to my house."Melanie said after cleaning off her dish in the sink.
"Alright,"I said unsure of what else I could have said.
Melanie left through the back door. Saturday and I had the house alone. Sighing, I slid off the kitchen stool and made my way back up to my room vowing not to leave until I got hungry again. Flipping onto a random station, I sat in my bed and waited to get hungry.
A couple hours later, still no one came into the house. There was nothing to do, no one to talk to although, I wouldn't talk to anyone anyway. Instead, I would sit there, not wanting to be there since they didn't want me to be there. My phone remained silent as usual. Even before we moved, the only person I'd really talked to had been Krista and we never really talked to each other outside of school much. Only when Emily had been born and when I moved. God, I hadn't talked to her since I moved. People always say they're going to stay in touch but it's like New Year's resolutions. They never last long. Sighing, I laid back on the bed and stretched out staring up at the ceiling in the midst of the depressing pity party I was having. Suddenly, my phone started ringing. At first, I didn't recognize it as my phone ringing so I jumped up on my bed and started spinning around trying to see the source of the noise. Then, I realized that it wasn't an intruder, but in fact "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. The ring tone I'd assigned to any unknown callers. Don't ask me why.
