"Renee, get your lazy ass up out of bed before I drag you out." a familiar voice growled.

I sighed from underneath my warm comforter preparing myself for when it was either yanked off of me or dunked in cold water.

"Hi, Blake." I muttered as I sat up, wrapped the comforter around my shoulders, and shuffled my way to my closet. And all without opening my eyes.

My dad had said that I'd been missing too much school, then I said that the werewolf academy he was running technically wasn't even a school, then he said if that was the case then I should have straight As, then I said I was kidnapped, then he said you've already been kidnapped, I think you're used to it. That earned a couple of exasperated groans but he eventually won because he had Mom and the whole education and future thing on his side.

"Hurry the hell up before I make you run before school." Blake threatened.

I opened my eyes just so I could roll them and turned back to him rubbing my eye with my fist clenching the comforter.

"First of all, you can't 'make me run before school', and second why are you even here?" I snapped.

"Because I'm your bodyguard along with Darren and since we've lost one, I need to step up." he said professionally.

"Oh, you mean step up from doing nothing? Great job, Blake. I know I can count on you for anything."

God, this guy was annoying. Blake didn't say anything else. He just huffed his way out of my room so I could get dressed. I chose a dark navy blue pullover shirt with a hood and white strings hanging down to the one pocket in the from with blue jeans, white lace Toms, and a silver bird necklace. My hair, I just threw it in a ponytail not bothering to do anything with it. After brushing my teeth and all that other good stuff, I grabbed my phone off my bedside table and made my way downstairs. My backpack was waiting for me on the kitchen counter stool along with my breakfast. I dug in, savoring the taste.

"Hey," Darren said from the other side of the kitchen.

"Hey," I said swallowing a huge bite of pancakes.

"I'm really sorry-" he started but I cut him off.

"Darren, really, it's okay. I'm fine and it wasn't your fault so stop apologizing." I said.

He looked at me like a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders but he still looked a little guilty just like Melanie.

"Where's Melanie?" I asked him.

"She's running to school." Blake interrupted going straight for the fridge.

My mouth formed an 'o' shape and I ignored Blake's...Blakeyness. After I finished my breakfast, my dad came down and drove us all to school. It took me a couple tries to actually get up out of the car and waddle into school but I did and I regretted it from the very first second.

The whole air of the school was off. It felt different somehow even though it was the same thing. There were people inside the school that I could see but it looked like they were watching something really gross. Some people were really stiff, others looked like they were seconds away from ripping someone's head off, and others looked wary.

"What's up with all the tension?" I mumbled to myself.

We walked into the school. Darren and Blake were both on edge. They had been put on edge by the edgeyness of everybody inside and now they tensed up even more. If that was even possible.

"Rivals," Darren whispered under his breath.

"What?" I hissed in surprise.

"Rivals," Blake breathed.
