Bucky smiles at his date as they entered the diner, the woman talking avidly. He wasn't paying much attention though. His thoughts were on the fact that he wasn't feeling the same thing when she touched his arm as when Steve touched his hand.
What did he feel for Steve anyway? Of course, he cared for his smaller friend. Steve was the most important person in his life along with his mum. He figured he should just list all emotions he could clarify when around Steve for now. He sat down at a table with the girl, leaning on the table slightly towards her, acting as if he cared about what she said.
First; Protective. He was very protective of Steve. He was much smaller, much weaker, much easier to bully then Bucky was; but he was so hot-headed and prideful that he didn't care if the guy was bigger or buffer, he'd fight them for getting on his bad side. Bucky sometimes felt like he was a small dog with all bark, little bite. Steve's pride was one thing that Bucky admired about Steve though, so even if it got Steve hurt and made Bucky plenty of enemies, he couldn't help but call it a perk to the small blond as much as a flaw.
Second; Jealousy. He had felt jealous of Maria. He'd come to terms with that the moment he saw the two kiss. It's not like he wanted to kiss Steve though, they were just friends. He'd been jealousy because Maria was taking time that was Bucky's. She had used Steve in his eyes, and that angered him.
Third; Anger. Whether on Steve's behalf, or because of Steve. When it was on Steve's behalf, it was always a grudge of forever. Bucky was terrible at letting go of grudges. When it's because of Steve, he could never stay angry at him long. Which is probably why they had been friends so long. Even when his mum made him mad, he'd hold that grudge for a good month. Steve could barely last a few days. He always gave in and forgave the blond.
Bucky was interrupted from his thoughts by the waitress. He recited the order he always had. Normally Steve would get the same but with tomato sauce but...Bucky almost forgot that he had a date. He questioned what she wanted and she told him. It was a completely opposite to his order, making him mentally sigh. The waitress walked off and the girl continued talking as he went back to his thoughts.
Fourth; Butterflies. That flutter in his stomach felt like little butterfly wings against the walls of his stomach, so he had picked up the popular term for it in a romance novel, which had been disgustingly cheesy. Butterflies basically meant he was nervous. He had no reason to be nervous though, so that just confused him. Steve wasn't scary or someone he aimed to impress majorly. He only felt the butterflies when he touched him, not when he touched Steve. Bucky had put it down as being partly surprised that he made contact with him without him initiating, which was usually the situation.
"-ucky! Bucky Barnes!" His blinked back to reality to find his irritated date. "Why would you say that?!"
"Huh?" He rose a brow in confusion. She was causing a scene.
"You called me disgustingly cheesy!" She huffed and pouted childishly.
"Because you are." He was uninterested in this date as it was. She talked too much and seemed like a prude anyway.
"That- ugh, I'm leaving." She stood and left the diner in a huff. Bucky glowered and walked out, not bothering to wait for his food or drinks. As he walked home, kicking up rocks, he continued to think.
Lastly; His disinterest. He'd always been a ladies man until recently. Ladies flocked him, he'd lost his virginity at sixteen to an older woman, he'd been a hot shot. He could have any woman. But then these feeling come along and he's now terrible with them. He had no interest in chatting them up as much anymore. He hadn't been laid in six months. You'd think he'd get even more woman now that he was a soldier, but nope. Instead, he was stuck with these strange feeling for his best friend.
