Afternoon

Jeongguk comes back home through the front door, pretending like nothing happened and like he didn't just skip school, walking in casually.

"Where were you?" Jeongguk's mum questions as soon as Jeongguk was in her sight, obviously already in the midst of being absolutely furious with Jeongguk.

Jeongguk looks at her and doesn't respond. He had enough of her, she was so annoying and didn't let him be his own person, all she really cared about was his grades. He rolls his eyes, walking straight past her without a single word out of his mouth.

She was quite surprised, as she watched him walk straight past her, placing a hand on her hip, "Jeongguk!" She yells angrily out of nowhere, obviously greatly affected by Jeongguk's silent treatment.

He didn't even flinch, continuing to walk past her.

"Hey, I'm talking to you!" She shouts in rage, grabbing Jeongguk's arm roughly to stop him from walking away, squeezing it hard.

"Ow! Let go!" Jeongguk whines, trying to pull his arm out of his mother's stronghold.

"I asked you where you were! You better answer me!" she threatens, looking dead into Jeongguk's eyes to scare him into telling the truth.

"Let go of me!" Jeongguk struggles, trying to twist his arm out of his tight grip.

She looks down at how hard she was actually gripping onto Jeongguk's arm, letting go, although she was still angry.

"I was at school, what do you think?" Jeongguk finally answers, even though it was a lie, narrowing his eyebrows in irritation.

"Sure." She replies in a sarcastic tone, crossing her arms together. "Do you expect me to believe that? I know you're lying, I saw you get in that car! I called the school and they said you weren't there today! How dare you lie to my face!" She rants, pointing aggressively at Jeongguk.

"Then why are you asking if you already knew?" Jeongguk questions back, looking just as angry as her. She doesn't respond, making Jeongguk roll his eyes and storm past her, walking up the stairs to the second level.

"No, No! You don't get to just ditch school, hop in a stranger's car and then come home and disrespect me!" She snaps, walking up the stairs, following him, making Jeongguk turn back and look at her.

"I'm your mother. I tell you what to do" She finishes.

Jeongguk scoffs, "If you're my mother, why don't you start acting like it?"

"Whose car was it?" Jeongguk's mother begins, grabbing Jeongguk's wrist to warn him.

Jeongguk doesn't reply, "It was that boy you introduced me to the other day, wasn't it?" She claims.

Jeongguk stays silent.

"I forbid you! Forbid you! From seeing that stupid boy again!" She shouts in rage.

"He's not stupid!" Jeongguk fires back, snatching his arm out of her hold.

"No, you're right. You're the stupid one!" She yells in a mean manner.

"STUPID!" She repeats loudly, pushing Jeongguk in the chest, making him step back and loss balance for two seconds.

"You failed math so that makes you stupid. What does that say about me? What is everyone going to say about me? They are probably going to think 'wow. His mum must be stupid too'" She trails off, worrying too much about what other people think.

"Why would they think that?" Jeongguk narrows his eyebrows.

"Because you failed!" She shouts tears dripping down her face. "Why did you fail math?" She cries.

"Because I didn't study! Even when you told me to! I purposely failed, because I knew you would get angry!" Jeongguk dares, knowing it will piss her off.

"Why?" She cries.

"Why does it matter so much to you? Why is it, that all you care about is my studies!" Jeongguk argues, it has always bothered him ever since he was a kid.

"Why!" He shouts even louder in her face. Closer and louder than before.

She's speechless, looking at Jeongguk with sad eyes, "I just want the best for your future."

"Really? Because I think a good mother that raises you properly would be a better help for the future in making me not so miserable, instead of useless studying 24/7. You only care about my studies for a better lifestyle, because you couldn't do it yourself." Jeongguk snaps.

She slaps him hard across the face, making Jeongguk's face turn to the right, he stays there in a frozen position.

"How could you say that? Who gives you food? Who puts a roof above your head?" She laments.

"Yeah? Well then who loves me? Asks if i'm okay? Hugs me? Care for me?" Jeongguk cries back, memories from his past coming back, she was never there to comfort him when he needed it the most.

She doesn't say anything back, staring at Jeongguk's face.

"Yeah. That's what I thought. No one. Well, if you didn't already know, that's what you're supposed to be fucking doing."

"Instead of caring about my studies why don't you just ask if i'm okay once in awhile, it wouldn't hurt. Or you can just worry about what people think about you, because apparently since i'm stupid that makes you stupid too?" Jeongguk adds.

Jeongguk scoffs,"You're so self-centred. That's probably why dad left us." Jeongguk mumbles, walking into his room and slamming the door in her face.

"What did you just say?" She opens Jeongguk's bedroom door back open, revealing Jeongguk standing behind it.

"I said! THAT'S PROBABLY WHY DAD LEFT US!" Jeongguk screams without hesitation.

Jeongguk's mum lifts her hand up ready to slap Jeongguk across the face, but just holds it there, staring at Jeongguk as tears stream down her face.

"Is slapping me and yelling at me always your response?"

She breaths heavily her shaky hand slowly coming down.

Jeongguk just stares, he did feel sorry for her. Because in the end, she is his mother.

Jeongguk's mother walks away from Jeongguk, heading to her room, crying hard into her pillow.
