Harry's eyes found mine immediately, then his face became pink under its flawless tan and he looked away.

On my period? What's that supposed to mean?

I looked over at Travis and he smiled awkwardly, shrugging.

"I'm sorry," Harry said, embarrassed as he stepped out of the water and back on to the dry sand. I backed away when droplets were kicked up slightly in his advance out of the shallow water.

"It's completely fine." I was absolutely dumbstruck to the knowledge of what a period was and why it made the boys, and the atmosphere around us, so awkward. I made a note to later ask Travis what it was.

"No, I'm sorry. I could've made it come across a lot more cleaner than that." Travis spoke up, sitting his wet butt and board in the sand. "And it was rude of me to blurt out her menstrual cycle."

"My-?" But Harry cut me off.

"Better to have me know than risk being eaten by a shark." He said, trying to lighten up this situation.

Travis chuckled. "Bloody hell." He said, in a horrible attempt at doing an accent partially similar to Harry's.

Why was this conversation starting to feel like it was turning on me? I felt the need to be embarrassed.

Both boys were laughing, Harry with his head thrown back and his nose crinkled. Travis with his hands covering his face. Both sides of amused sounds was rather loud while I sat watching them both.

My eyes were met with Harry's and he began to compose himself, clearing his throat. "I'm sorry."

I pulled my knees up and shrugged. I felt like this situation should've put me in the fetal position, but I still didn't understand the punch line.

"Are you upset, love?" Harry asked me, scooting himself closer to where I sat.

"In a way; yes."

"I'm sorry, Evanjaline," Travis spoke up. "I shouldn't have made a joke about it."

I nodded, afraid of saying the wrong thing to put off his excuse in why I can't be in the water.

"Lets do something, yeah?" Harry suggested, standing up and offering me his hands. "Want to play volley ball?"

"I've never played." I answered, taking his hands and standing.

"Really?" Harry looked over to Travis who only shrugged. "Then I'll teach you, it's fun." His smile put me in a trance and the sun shined off of his teeth.

"Okay." I replied, only to watch Harry jog away from me and to one of the men blockading off this portion of the beach.

He talked with one of them and they walked farther up the beach, out of sight, then came back into view shortly with a red, white, and blue colored round thing.

I've seen it before. When I would look to land, I would see humans hitting it up in the air for others to do the same.

I quickly turned to Travis when Harry was out of hearing range and asked, "What is a period and why was it so funny?"

"I'll tell you later, okay?"

"I would like to know now," I pressed. "Please."

"It's when-"

"Ready to play?" Harry interrupted, a huge grin on his face.

"Yes!" Travis shouted, looking relieved to be out of answering my question. But it's okay, though. I will be asking again later.
