I still didn't feel all too excited to be left alone while Travis is in school. He explained to me, very patiently, on how to change movies and put a new one in on his lap top if I wanted to watch a film. I nodded through everything, taking in the information, but I still didn't want to be alone here.
I didn't want Travis to leave.
"Why can I not go with you?" I asked him while I walked Travis and his mother out to her car.
Jennifer answered me. "You'd have to register to get in to the school if you want to do classes with him. It's a hassle."
"What about just staying with him?" I asked.
"There is a visitors pass-"
"Can I use that?" I questioned quickly.
Before Jennifer could answer me, Travis spoke up. "Evanjaline, you'll be fine here. Watch movies and make a mess. Day dream of your green eyed soul mate."
They both laughed lightly at Travis' words, but I rubbed my right hand on my left arm. I didn't want to be left alone. I was barely alone since I've come on to land and even when I was alone, someone else I knew was always right there, not too far away.
"I'll be lonely." I called out as quietly as I could but loud enough that they both could hear me.
"You'll be okay. I promise." Travis reassured me, walking away from the car and coming back over to me.
His hands came to my shoulders before he pulled me into a warm constricting hug. "Besides, the school isn't very far from here."
"Eight hours is a long time." I stated once we pulled apart.
"I know, but it'll fly by when you're watching Frozen and the Little Mermaid. You can watch Harry on YouTube without hearing me complain that you're gonna have a 'Styles overload'. You can even take a bath."
"Without any help? I would like to stay conscious today and not risk hitting my head on anything when I'm trying to exit the tub."
Okay, I'll admit that I was nervous. It was very intimidating, being left alone especially in a house that isn't yours. What if something, anything, were to happen? I would have no clue what to do. I don't know very much humans here, I don't know how to interact with anyone who has permanent legs except a very few. My mind clouded with whines of complaint as I stared at Travis.
He tucked a strand of loose hair behind my ear, then patted my cheek gently. "I'll be back before you know it."
* * *
He wasn't back yet.
Travis told me that school starts at 8 am.
I looked over at the clock.
8:07am.
I huffed and continued the uninteresting staring contest at the wall across from my sitting position on the couch in the living room. I missed my friend, they had to leave early because his mother had duties to attend to before school started.
I stood from my place on the couch and paced the length of the carpeted living room, bringing my fingers up to my mouth so I could chew on my nails.
8:10am and I'm bored.
I marched up the spiral stair case and decided to change out of my pajamas and into something that made me look ready for the day. I walked into Travis' room and went straight for the big dresser that we shared. I pulled out an outfit, not really caring if it matched or not. I guess black matches anything, right?
Materials weren't my biggest worry and the best I can explain this blouse like top is strapless with a corset-ish top that flows out into a skirt mid-rib cage and stopped just at the top of my pants. For my bottoms I wore a sleek black skinny jeans that complimented the floral top quite nicely. I didn't really know names to clothes, unless Travis had said it in a conversation when we bought it. Clothes were fantastic, but I prefer to feel free in my own skin, not a layer of something else over it.
