"Really?" Clarke laughed, sitting across from Nova on the tiny couch. They had finished up training earlier in the day and now were sharing stories of their past. Nova managed to make the blonde laugh quite a bit, and she felt like she accomplished something."Yeah, I was the clumsiest when we were learning to use our bows and actually stabbed myself with one of the arrows when I fell." Nova chuckled and tried hiding her smile, the thought of her younger self made her laugh, she was so different now.
Clarke chuckled again, running a hand through her blonde locks, sitting back in the couch and pulling a blanket over her shivering body. Nova slowed her laughing down, holding a smile on her features.
"What about you, anymore stories to spill?" Nova was even more interested in the girl she was slowly getting to know. She enjoyed having this time to themselves, without having to worry about the threats that lingered beyond the walls.
"Come on space girl." Nova teased, revealing that she knew who Clarke was. In a way.
"How did you know?" Clarke wasn't thinking when she asked it, but she still did.
"The grounders knew. I'm a grounder. Simple as that. I just kept my distance, I didn't know you guys, and everyone else around me under estimated all of you. About a week after you guys came down, I left. I didn't want to be apart of a war that I knew was coming." Nova shrugged and glanced down at her lap. Her right leg was folded under her left leg that was dangling from the couch. Clarke sighed and ran a hand through her hair, coming closer to Nova.
"The Ark. Where we're from, was a lot different than down here," Clarke started, fiddling around with the hem of her shirt, "we use to believe that earth was the dream we wanted to come true, but it wasn't. We know that now. It's changed us...so much."
Clarke paused and looked down, trying to hide the croak in her throat, "we did things that we wouldn't have been able to even imagine. We did it to protect each other, to protect the people we love. You get that, right?" Clarke looked up at Nova, hoping for one response.
"Of course I get it Clarke," Nova took the blondes shaking hand in hers, rubbing her thumb against the smooth surface, "protecting your people should always come first, even if that means doing something you would never picture yourself doing."
Clarke locked eyes with Nova, hesitating before speaking her mind, wanting to get everything off her chest, "I did something. Something th-that's making me question who I really am. My people, they're safe now, but how I got them back..."
Clarke's eyes filled with tears, her light blue eyes turning a darker, colder blue.
"They were hurting my friends, I had no other choice. If I didn't do what I did, I don't know what would have happened. I killed innocent people, Nova. I left my group to try and get a grip on things, but it hasn't been working." Clarke's head fell to look at her lap again, her blonde curls falling with her, covering her face. Nova took a breath in, letting it go when she put the pieces together.
"Your nightmares, they've been because of this, haven't they?" Nova questioned Clarke. She didn't move, just nodded and sat there.
Nova squeezed Clarke's hand and shifted over, wrapping her arms around the girl. Instead of protesting or pushing the brunette away, Clarke held onto Nova's jacket, her face buried in the girls shirt as she let the tears come out. There weren't any signs of them stopping, and at that moment Clarke didn't care. She needed the nightmares to stop, and maybe Nova was the person to help with her solution.

The two of them had fallen asleep on the couch together, and when Nova woke up she smiled at what she saw. Clarke was resting on Nova's side and their hands were stuck together, the same as they were the night before.
Nova didn't want to move and end up waking Clarke up, so instead she just lied there, her legs tangled with Clarke's and the warmth from her body warming Nova up. Her right arm was still wrapped around the blonde, so to keep herself busy, she fiddled around with the zipper on Clarke's jacket.
The silence was comforting and so was the position the girls were in. Nova hadn't had a human interaction like this in a long time and it was nice for a change.
Nova took the time she had to just look at Clarke. She had been comfortable to share her life with Nova, she must have trusted her. She also broke down and Nova already knew that Clarke was a type of person to not do that often.
Her lips curled at the corners when Clarke squirmed in her sleep, moving to get closer to Nova. Her hand was still clutching onto Nova's shirt, pulling it down slightly.
Nova brought her trapped arm up to Clarke's head, pushing her hair out of her face and putting it behind her ear. Clarke was calm and worry free. And that's what Nova wanted for her to be at all times, but she knew that was impossible in their world.
Nova's thoughts stopped when Clarke's low, quiet breathing picked up. The sweat line formed on her forehead and her body was shaking. Her grip tightened around Nova's shirt and hand as the squirming continued.
"Clarke?" Nova pushed her up a little, freeing her right hand to try and wake the girl, "hey, come on, wake up."
Nova shook Clarke's body but she wouldn't budge. That's when Clarke jumped up from where she was lying, her hand flying to her face.
"Clarke..." Nova moved closer to Clarke but she stood up, "it's okay. I'm here."
"I-I just. I'm sorry." With that, Clarke left the room quickly, her steps echoing in the large room. Nova sighed and ran a hand down her face. She felt hopeless yet again. All she wanted was for Clarke not to suffer through the terrible nightmares, but she wasn't sure how to help. So she did the only thing she knew how to do.
She left to go hunting.
