She used to write about fairy tales. About happy endings. About true love. Now, she can't even write at all. Maybe they're right. Maybe, depression is really when you stopped doing things you loved doing. Maybe she's depressed.
She stumbled through her notebooks and placed it on her bag as she made her way outside. It's cold. But she didn't feel like going back and picking up the jacket hanging by the chair. She made her way to the bus stop and shivered as the cold air touched her bare shoulders.
Is this even considered living? When all she does is exist day by day, not sure where to go. Not sure what to do.
The bus arrived and she made her way as she plugged her earphones in, tuning out the surroundings.
She arrived at the school thirty minutes before seven. She went to her locker, picked up her schedule and glanced by the hallways. She had learned to tune out most of the sounds in her head, so it didn't bother her that there are already a lot of students.
Lauren isn't normal. She can read minds. Hear minds. It's both a blessing and a curse. If she had a choice, she'd pick being normal in a heartbeat.
Except that day. That day when she heard a voice that she hadn't heard before. Curious is the best word to use to describe what she felt. So she tried to walk to the cafeteria where the mystery voice seemed to be louder.
'Where the fuck should I go?' the voice sounded confused and it took everything in Lauren not to push everyone in her way to find that voice.
She did everything to tune out everyone. Gossips, daydreams and everything. She focused at that voice and wished to put a face on it.
Someone touched her shoulder and she almost punch the person in the face for startling her.
"Dude what the fuck, calm down yo tits." Dinah said putting both her arms in the air as a form of defense.
"Oh. Sorry. I was looking for someone." Lauren shrugged as she snapped her head back to the crowd, trying to look for someone unfamiliar.
"Well, it's almost seven. We should get to class."
"Yeah, sure. Let's go." Lauren replied, scanning the cafeteria one last time before heading to class.
-
And this is how it went. Lauren walked through the classroom not bothering to hear out anyone. Sometimes, obnoxious thoughts would pass by her head and she would cringe at how someone thinks about this type of things early this morning.
Lauren took a seat at the back of the room. It's the first day, no one would bother to start a real class yet. It's her junior year and she can't wait to go to college and leave this place.
Then she heard that voice again.
'Oh my God oh my God' the voice whimpered and Lauren shot up her head to the front door.
There she stood, a brown eyed, petite girl that looked a whole lot calmer than her thoughts.
'Smile Camila, smile. You can do this.' The girl- whose name is Camila- mumbled on her thoughts but smiled confidently as she walked to give her slip to the teacher.
"Class, this is- what's your name sweetie?" the teacher asked, trailing as he waited for the new girl's name.
"Camila. Camila Cabello." she said as her eyes scanned the classroom.
Pretty name for a pretty girl. Lauren thought.
'There Camila. Good job in not saying your first name' Camila thought and Lauren waited. She's sure she'll find out what her first name is.
Why the fuck do I want to know her first name? Lauren scolded herself and suddenly found herself more intrigued.
The brown eyed girl scanned the room to find a seat.
'Nope, not there, he looks pervy' Lauren chucked at the girl's thoughts, wondering who the hell uses the word 'pervy'
'Uh there. I'll just sit beside that pretty girl' Camila thought and Lauren's head snapped, seeing Camila eyeing the seat beside her.
Lauren blushed as Camila made her way beside her.
"Hi." Camila greeted once she's seated and faced Lauren.
"I'm Camila." she voiced out, but thought 'It's actually Karla Camila but I don't want to be called Karla.'
"Karla's a pretty name though." Lauren mumbled, not realizing the girl heard her.
Camila's eyes widened from pure shock as she heard Lauren mumbled her first name.
"What did you say?" Camila asked, still shocked.
"I uh, nothing, I said 'nice to meet you Camila'" Lauren stuttered.
'Im pretty sure she just mentioned my name, but anyway-
"What's your name?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.
"I'm Lauren."
'Pretty name for a pretty girl.' Camila thought.
Oh fuck-- is all Lauren can think of.
