Your mother was an English teacher in Westfield High. She used to be liked by the students because she was really interesting when she talked about Fitzgerald or Shakespeare. She used to passionate her students. Plus she was truly comprehensive and kind, she was convinced that her duty was to help students to find their vocation and appreciate literature and not to punish them or to overload them with homework. She used to support her pupils and did her best to help them even if this subject wasn't their best. To her the most important wasn't your grades but your progress.

She always spoke about her students positively, all her student except one. Tate Langdon. He was in your class in psychology. He was a quiet kid, he never spoke during class, he always sat in the last raw and looked outside. But most of the time he simply skipped school. He considered school as a burden and didn't do any efforts. You thought that he hated school because he was bullied. You asked your mother why she didn't like him after all he wasn't the only guy who just didn't care about school. She explained that Tate could be a good student, an excellent one if he was okay to do some efforts but he never did. He was wasting his potential and that was driving your mum crazy. She tried to talk to him to make him understand that it was important to work and to know why he rarely show up in class. She wanted to know if he had some personal issues to help him or at least to understand why he was infrequently at school. However he told her that it was none of her business and he didn't need her pity before storming out of the classroom. No one never acted like this with your mum and that made her angry so since this day she never mentioned his name again.

You were next to your locker laughing at one of your friends jokes. You heard the first bell rang and made your way to your psychology class with your closest friend. When you took your seat you noticed that Tate was present today and it surprised you. it was a Tuesday and he usually never showed up on Tuesday. Maybe he was finally doing some efforts. You internally smiled your mum would be satisfied.

During the lunch time you saw Tate left the cafeteria for the library and it amazed you when you realized that he hadn't leave school yet. You were totally lost in thought and you didn't notice that your friends were talking to you. when you finally heard them call your name with an annoyed voice they looked at what was catching your attention. When they spotted the dirty blonde boy they giggled.

_ Didn' know that this guy was your type. He is cute but honestly Y/N he is a weirdo. Next time you should stare at him more discreetly. One of your friend joked.

_ I wasn't staring and he is not my type! You scoffed.

_ yeah that's what you say but we don't believe you. another chuckled and you rolled your eyes at her. but if you weren't staring why were you looking at him?

_ I was just surprised that he is still in school usually he skipped or left before the lunch.

_ Wow you know a lot about him for someone who isn't interested! You blushed at this remark.

_ No I don't he is just in class with me and I think that he is a weirdo even a psycho. I don't care about him, to be honest I don't like him. you tried to defend yourself but you knew that your excuses were lame.

_ Prove it.  a sneaky girl of your group said as a dare and the others nodded.

_ How? You promised yourself to never enter in one of her silly game but the temptation to prove that you didn't have a crush on him was too strong to resist.

_ Ask him to go to a date with you, he is a loser he will accept that's sure. You just have to never show up to the date. She smirked proud of her idea and gave high five to your friends who share her opinion, that was a great idea, simple but efficient.

_ I can't do that, it is unfair for him. you replied.

_ if I were you I would do it because if you don't be sure that we will transform your life in a nightmare, we don' want a loser who has a crush on a psycho in our group. If you still want to be our friend do it! she threatened you.

You didn't know how to react. Breaking Tate's heart and confidence was devious but you didn't want your life to become a living hell. Plus you didn't know Tate, he was certainly attractive to your eyes but that was all. That was nothing maybe he would even refuse your date and it would be simple. You eventually agreed to go and ask Tate out. You quickly left the cafeteria and made your way to the library. You spotted Tate alone reading a novel and you sat next to him. he didn't even bother to look at you and you cleared your throat. His eyes met yours and he smiled genuinely at you.

_ What do you want? He asked softly and hesitantly.

_ I... you took a deep breath. I think that you are very cute and you seem interesting and I don't know, I wanted to know you more so I thought maybe you wanted to go on a date with me.

Tate's eyes grew wide in amazement and he took an eternity to respond. You prayed that he would say no. he managed to say:

_ I always found you very cute too. And I've always wanted to know you more but since you're popular and I'm not I've always thought that you never notice me. He confessed. Going on a date with you would be a dream. Is it okay for you Friday if I pick you up at your house? His eyes were sparkling with joy and you felt so bad.

_ Yeah sure Friday would be good for me just don't pick me up at home my mum isn't really fan of you. but I can join you on the beach at 3 pm. The more you were talking the more your heart broke, it was so painful to know that you would hurt him but you had no choice.
