LeeAnn's POV

I was selling papes in my usual spot in a park. I was trying to focus on selling but couldn't. Davey was on my mind. He's been on my mind a lot recently due to the fact that I have a crush on him.  I doubt he feels the same way about me though since we are only good friends sadly.

I finished selling my papes and decided to slowly walk back to the lodging house. I turned down an alleyway that I usually go down as a short cut. I kicked a rock as I had my hands in my pockets. I suddenly heard a noise behind me and my heart beat started to pick up. I looked behind me and saw nothing. I started to walk again but faster this time. I have PTSD from my father abusing me when I was younger. I ran away from home when I was thirteen which was about 4 years ago and that's when Jack and Kid Blink found me. They took me in as a newsie so that's how I ended up as one.

I continued to quickly walk down the alley as my hands started to get sweaty. That's when everything took a turn for the worse. I felt hands wrap around my waist and picked me up.

"Hello LeeAnn" I heard a voice say that was way too familiar. I looked behind me and saw my father. My heart beat started to go even faster and I could feel tears start to prick my eyes.

"No, no, no, no" I whispered as I started to squirm and hit his arms. I didn't know what to do and all that came to mind was to yell.

"HELP! PLEASE! JACK! KID BLINK!" I yelled out but my father soon covered my mouth with his large hand. I bit his hand hard and he took it back but still didn't let me go. 

"DAVEY!" I yelled out again but my father covered my mouth again and squeezed it so I couldn't bite him.

"Don't yell again" He told me as slapped me across the face. He started to carry me the opposite way I was going. I started to give up as tears started to fall. No one was coming to help and there was no way I could escape him right now. That was until I was dropped on the ground. I groaned in pain as I looked up and saw Davey punch my father again. 

"Fighter run!" Davey yelled at me calling me by my newsie name I was given by Blink and Jack. I got up and was about to do what he said when I saw my father punch Davey making him fall to the ground. My father was about to punch him again until I jumped on his back giving Davey enough time to get back on his feet. I jumped off of his back just in time as Davey hit my father again making him fall to the ground and groan in pain.

"Come on let's go!" Davey said as he grabbed my hand and we both ran out of the alley. We continued to run until we were at the lodging house.

"Are you okay?" Davey asked me. I nodded as I looked at him and saw he had a cut on his face.

"Come inside. Let me clean the cut on your face" I said as I grabbed his hand and lead him inside. We walked upstairs and into the bathroom area that the newsies share. I sat him down on a stool and got a wet washcloth. I dabbed it on his cut and he moved his head a little in pain.

"I'm sorry" I said as I quickly moved the washcloth from his face.

"It's fine. It just hurt a little" He said as he gave me a small smile. I started to dab the cloth on his cut again but was soon distracted by his eyes. His eyes flickered from my eyes to my lips as he pushed a strand of my chestnut brown hair out of my face. He leaned in and soon our lips connected. My stomach did flips as our lips moved in sync. I smiled into the kiss happily. We pulled apart after a few seconds and continued to look into each others eyes.

"Thank you" I said with a smile.

"Thank you for what?" Davey asked confused.

"For saving me earlier" I said and Davey smiled.

"I had to. I couldn't let the girl I have a crush on get hurt" Davey said making me blush.

"You have a crush on me?" I asked.

"A big one" He said. I smiled as I leaned up and connected our lips again. We pulled apart again and smiled at each other.

"Does this mean we are together?" Davey asked with a smile. 

"Of course" I said with a smile that hurt my cheeks.
