Ronan then lifted his hammer, and sent a shockwave rippling forwards, knocking everyone back. But Drax got straight back up, and ran straight towards Ronan. 'Drax, no!' the Doctor said, as Drax was then put in a strangle hold by Ronan. 'I was mistaken,' Ronan said, 'I do remember your family. Their screams were pitiful. I-' But before Ronan could finish, Rocket crashed straight through the window, and into Ronan and Drax, as everyone dodged out of the way. The hole this blew in the Dark Aster was so damaging that the Dark Aster began to plummet towards the planet's surface. Peter picked up an unconscious Rocket, holding him in his arms, while Gamora picked up Drax. For a moment, Groot though about what he had to do, hesitating at first, before he did it. He extended his branches out of his arms, completely immersing his friends in a cocoon, and shielding them from the full force of the crash - which he would face himself. Spores lit up the cocoon, as Rocket woke up, but became grief stricken when he realised what his friend was doing. The Doctor also realised, and just looked at Groot with sadness. 'No Groot!' Rocket cried. 'You can't! You'll die! Why are you doing this? Why?' Groot looked into his best friend's eyes one last time, before using a small twig to stroke his face, wiping Rocket's tears away.
'We...are...Groot...' he said, as the Dark Aster crashed on Xandar, shattering him into a million pieces of bark.

Smoke cleared as the Dark Aster lay wrecked upon the ground. Music was still playing from the Milano's cassette player. Hundreds of people gathered around the wreckage. Everyone else was still reeling from their injuries, and Rocket was full of grief. The Doctor approached him. 'Rocket, I am so, so sorry,' he said. 'I called him an idiot,' Rocket replied. But Ronan then crawled out of the wreckage. 'Rocket, don't.' the Doctor warned. 'YOU KILLED GROOT!' Rocket yelled before running towards Ronan and being knocked back by the force of his hammer. 'Ronan,' the Doctor muttered. 'You can't! Please...stop this now! Billions of people are going to die, including yourself!'
'Behold!' Ronan yelled. 'Your guardians of the galaxy! What fruit have they wrought? Only that my father and his father shall finally know vengeance.' Whilst Ronan was making this speech, the Doctor was helping Rocket and Drax partially reassemble the Hadron Enforcer. 'People of Xandar,' Ronan continued, 'the time has come to rejoice and renounce your poultry gods!' He raised the hammer. 'Your salvation is at hand!' he said, before speaking words of his native language. But before he could wipe Xandar out, he was distracted by singing. 'Oooh child, things are going to get easier,' Quill sang, 'oooh child, things are going to get brighter - listen to these words-'
He was dancing, and everyone was watching. 'Ooh child, things are going to get easier,' he continued singing, 'ooh child things are going to get brighter - now break it down hard!' He continued singing and dancing. 'What are you doing?' Ronan asked. 'Dance off bro - me and you!' Peter replied, continuing to dance. 'Gamora,' he said, sticking his arm out to Gamora, who shook her head. 'Subtle, take it back,' he said continuing to dance. 'What are you DOING?!' Ronan asked again. 'I'm distracting you, big turd blossom!' Peter replied. Ronan turned around and time seemed to slow down as Drax used the Hadron Enforcer to shoot the Power Stone out of the hammer, destroying it. Peter then leapt towards the stone, attempting to sacrifice himself by grabbing it in his bare hands. 'PETER!' the Doctor yelled. 'NOOOO!!!!' Gamora screamed as Peter grabbed the Stone, causing a purple tornado to appear around them, and Peter to be on the ground, screaming and writhing in pain. He eventually managed to get up, and harness the Stone's energy a moment later, but he was still screaming in pain. Ronan smiled, knowing that if he dropped the Stone, Xandar was doomed. 'PETER!' Gamora called out. 'TAKE MY HAND!' Peter then turned around, and remembered these as his mother's dying words, and her dying wish, as she appeared to him in a vision surrounded by stars and galaxys of all sorts, beckoning him to take her hand. Tears filled Peter's eyes as the vision disappeared, and he took Gamora's hand, spreading the energy of the stone to her. The Doctor then crawled towards Peter. 'DOCTOR!' a familiar female voice called out to him. He turned around. The blonde girl in his vision from earlier was there again. 'Rose,' the Doctor muttered. 'DOCTOR TAKE HIS HAND!' Rose called out in desperation, crying. 'THE POWER'S GOING TO KILL HIM! DON'T LET HIM DIE! JUST HOLD HIM! PLEASE!' This gave the Doctor enough willpower to crawl over to Peter and grab his shoulder, passing the immense energy over to him as Rose disappeared. Drax then approached the Doctor, grabbing him by the hand and also feeling the immense flow of energy pass through him. Then Rocket was last, as he grabbed Drax's hand, holding one of Groot's twigs. By then, the energy had
passed through everyone, and they could harness it themselves. Everyone stood holding hands as they tilted their heads to face Ronan, who now had a look of horror on his face. 'You're mortal?' Ronan yelled in fear. 'HOW?'
'You said it yourself, bitch,' Peter replied, 'we're the Guardians of the Galaxy.' His eyes had gone black, and his pupils were now a dark shade of purple, with a black iris. Ronan attempted to attack them one more time but Peter then opened out his left hand, with which he was holding the Stone, and used it to destroy Ronan, who screamed in pain and horror as he was brutally disintegrated. Peter and Gamora then quickly sealed the Stone away in one of the containers they had brought with them, as the purple tornado slowly disappeared, leaving them in view of everyone on Xandar, and Ronan with nowhere to be seen.
