Meanwhile, on board the Dark Aster, the Other was contacting Ronan on behalf of Thanos himself.
'You have been betrayed, Ronan.' the Other scowled. 'We know only that she has been captured.' Ronan said, 'Gamora may yet recover the Orb.' 'No!' the Other's voice boomed throughout the dark, spacious hall. 'Our sources within the Kyln say Gamora has other plans for the Orb. Your partnership with Thanos is at risk. Thanos requires your presence, NOW!'
The Other ended the call, and a few hours later, Ronan was in the Sanctuary, the home of Thanos.
'With all due respect Thanos,' Ronan said, 'your daughter made this mess, and yet you summon me.'
'I would lower my voice, Accuser,' the Other warned. 'First, she lost a battle with some primitive.' Ronan said.
'Thanos put Gamora under your charge.' the Other replied. 'Then she was apprehended by the Nova Corps.' Ronan continued. 'You are the one here with nothing to show for it,' the Other replied. 'Your sources say that she intended to betray us the whole time!' Ronan yelled.
'Lower your tone!' the Other shouted. 'I may be your-' Before the Other could finish his sentence, Ronan had had enough - and used his hammer to snap his neck, killing him.
Then Ronan looked up towards Thanos. 'I only ask that you take this matter seriously,' he said.
Thanos turned around in his huge chair made out of asteroids. 'The only matter that I do not take seriously, boy, is you.' he said. 'Your politics bore me. Your demeanour is that of a pouty child, and apparently you alienated my favourite daughter Gamora. I shall honour our agreement, Kree, if you bring me the Orb. But return to me again empty handed, and I will bathe the starways in your blood.' Ronan shook with fear when Thanos said this - he knew of what Thanos was capable of. Nebula had just finished fixing her bionic arm. 'Thanks Dad,' she said. 'Sounds fair.' She then turned to Ronan. 'This is one fight you won't win,' she warned him, 'Let's head to the Kyln.'
Ronan seemed to look angrily at Thanos, who evilly grinned in return, as Ronan and Nebula departed to search for the Orb...In the Kyln, the Doctor, Peter, Rocket, Gamora and Groot were receiving their lunch as Rocket lay out the details of their escape.
'If we're gonna get out of here,' he began, 'we're gonna need to get into that watchtower. And to do that I'm gonna need a few things.'
'Like what?' the Doctor asked. 'The guards wear security bands to control their ins and outs. I need one.' Rocket said.
'Leave it to me.' Gamora said. 'That dude there, I need his prosthetic leg.' Rocket said. 'His leg?' Peter asked. 'Yeah,' Rocket replied. 'God knows I don't need the rest of him. Look at him, he's useless.' 'All right,' Quill replied. 'And finally on the wall back there is a black panel, with a blinky yellow light. You see it?' Rocket said. 'Yeah,' the Doctor replied, 'and what do we need that for?' 'There's a quarnyx battery behind it,' Rocket said, 'with a purplish box and green wires. To get into that watchtower, I definitely need it.'
'How are we supposed to do that?' Gamora asked. 'Well supposedly these bald bodies find you attractive, so maybe you can work out some sort of trade.' 'You must be joking,' Gamora responded embarrassedly. 'No I really heard they find you attractive.' Rocket replied. 'Look, it's 20ft up in the air, and it's in the most heavily guarded part of the prison.' Peter said. 'It's impossible to get up there without being seen.' 'I got one plan,' Rocket said, 'and that plan requires a frickin quarnyx battery, so FIGURE IT OUT!'Whilst this conversation was happening, Groot was already reaching for the quarnyx battery, but the Doctor saw him. 'Hey Groot, maybe now is not the time to get that,' he said. 'I am Groot.' Groot replied. 'Listen to me, that's the most heavily guarded part of the prison, we're never going to get out if you get it now!'
Then he overheard the final words in the conversation that the others were having.
'Once we get the battery, everything is going to slam into emergency mode,' Rocket explained, 'Once we have it, we gotta move quickly, so definitely get that last.'
'Groot, no-' the Doctor said. But he was too late. Groot had already removed the battery.
Alarms rang out throughout the prison.
'Or we can just get it first and improvise,' Rocket snapped.
'I'll get the armband,' Gamora said. 'Leg,' Peter replied.
Rocket then put his head in his hands. His plan was going very very wrong. Security drones entered the main atrium, surrounding the Doctor and Groot. A prison officer could be heard over the main intercom 'Prisoner, drop the device immediately and retreat to your cell immediately or we will open fire.' he warned. But Groot felt no fear, even though he was surrounded. 'Groot, I can use my screwdriver to disable some of them but apart from that, you're on your own!' the Doctor said. 'I...AM...GROOT!' Groot yelled.
'Fire!' the officer ordered, and the security bots began shooting at Groot, who was shielding the Doctor from multiple rounds of gunfire with his branches, and knocking them away, sending the still firing sentry turrets tumbling away, with bullets flying everywhere. The Doctor then used his screwdriver to disable one of the droids, causing it to fall to the ground. Then Rocket approached, climbing Groot. 'You idiot!' he yelled. 'How am I supposed to fight these things without my stuff?!'
'I have a screwdriver,' the Doctor said.
'What's a screwdriver gonna do?' Rocket asked. 'Go build a cabinet!'
'That's really rude!' the Doctor replied.
He then used his screwdriver to disable another droid.
'Oh ok,' Rocket asked. 'But they're just gonna bring in more!'
'Well, that's bad.' the Doctor replied.
Then Nova Corps officers entered the room. 'The animal is in control, fire on my command!' one of them yelled. But suddenly and unexpectedly, Drax leapt to his chance to escape, fighting off all the guards. Then he picked up a gun.
'Creepy little beast!' he yelled to Rocket, before throwing the gun to him. In a moment that was only a second but seemed to last forever, Rocket caught the gun. 'Oh yeah,' he muttered before firing the gun at all the sentry droids, blowing them to bits, as he and Groot screamed and laughed. 'Oh come on,' the Doctor said, 'now what am I going to do?' He then climbed a ladder up to the next floor, and came across Peter with the leg. 'I see you got the leg then Peter,' he said. Then a sentry droid appeared behind Peter and with lightning reflexes the Doctor used his sonic on it, disabling it. 'Quickly!' he said, but soon they were confronted by another prison guard. 'Drop the leg!' he said. 'Drop the leg and the sonic device and return to your cells immediately!' But Peter whacked him across the head with the leg, before picking up his gun and shooting another sentry turret. Meanwhile, Gamora was fighting off a few prison guards, before reaching one with an armband, who she put in an leglock. Noticing the armband, she said 'I'm gonna need this.' 'Good luck, it's internally wired,' the guard responded.
'I'll figure something out,' she said before breaking the man's leg. Rocket and Groot were still shooting many sentry bots, before Gamora called out to them, throwing the armband. 'Move to the watchtower!' Rocket yelled, as everyone proceeded to do so. Gamora jumped across a wide space between bridges, and Peter and the Doctor climbed up Groot's branches. But on the way up, a sentry turret approached, and somehow, Drax jumped extremely high up and ripped it apart with his bare hands.
'You! Man who has laid with an A'askavariian!' he yelled. 'It was one time, man.' Peter replied.
Then they entered the watchtower, and the guard surrendered as Groot forcibly threw him out.Entering the watchtower, Gamora noticed Drax standing next to her. 'Spare me your foul gaze, woman!' he yelled.
'Why is this one here?' Gamora asked.
'We promised him he could stay by your side until he kills your boss,' Peter explained. 'I always keep my promises, when they're to muscle-bound whack-jobs who will kill me if I don't. Here ya go.' He gave the leg to Rocket. 'Oh I was just kidding about the leg, I only need these two things,' Rocket giggled.
'Are you serious?' the Doctor asked.
'I thought it would be funny, was it funny? What did he look like hopping around?' Rocket replied. 'I had to transfer him 30,000 units!' Peter said, to which Rocket just laughed. Sentry bots surrounded the watchtower, shooting at it. 'How are we going to get out of here?' Drax said. 'Well, he's got a plan, right?' Peter asked, 'or is that another thing you made up?' 'I have a plan! I have a plan!' Rocket said, panicking a bit. 'Cease your yammering and relieve us of this irksome confinement.' Drax said. 'Yeah, I am gonna have to agree with the walking thesaurus on that one.' Peter said, turning to Drax, who looked at him with a unimpressed look on his face. 'Do not ever call me a thesaurus,' he said. 'It's just a metaphor, dude,' Peter replied.
'His people are completely literal. Metaphors are gonna go over his head.' Rocket explained.
'Nothing goes over my head,' Drax replied, 'my reflexes are too fast. I would catch it.' 'I'm gonna die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy.' Gamora moaned.
'I'm not an idiot, just a madman with a box!' the Doctor replied. Gamora sighed.
Then some Nova Corps officers arrived with armour and rocket launchers.
'Those are some big guns.' Peter nervously said. 'Way to state the obvious,' the Doctor replied, attempting to help Rocket with the controls.
'On my command!' the leader of the Nova Corps officers yelled. 'Number one!' A rocket was shot at the tower.
'Rodent, we are ready for your plan.' Gamora said. 'Hold on!' Rocket replied.
'Why are they only firing one at once?' the Doctor said. 'That's a bit idiotic.'
'Would you like them to hit us with all of them?!' Rocket replied panicking.
No, but it doesn't really seem right,' the Doctor remarked.
'Number two!' the Nova Corps officer replied, and a second rocket shot at the tower.
'I recognise this animal.' Drax said. 'We'd roast them over a flame pit as children! Their flesh was quite delicious!'
'NOT HELPING!' Rocket snapped.
'Number three!' the officer ordered, and a third rocket shot at the tower, and the windows began to crack.
'All five on my command!' the officer ordered. 'And now they do it!' the Doctor moaned.
Rocket kept flicking buttons to finally complete his plan as the officer counted down.
'3...2...1!'
Then some power source began to stop working, and suddenly the guards began to float. In fact, everything seemed to float, except for them, including the watchtower they were in.
'He turned off the artificial gravity, everywhere but in here.' Gamora said.
'Woohoo! That's brilliant!' the Doctor replied. 'Even me, with my Time Lord brain never could have thought of that!'
Then Rocket attached the sentry bots to the tower, powering some of them up, to propel the capsule sharply downwards - and out of the prison, through a corridor. 'I told you I had a plan,' Rocket said. They bounced through the corridor, and when they reached the end, Rocket sealed the doors to the rest of the prison.
'That was a pretty good plan,' Peter said.
'Well, this is the first time I have said that in ages, but that was FANTASTIC!' the Doctor replied.
