What Phil didn't know was that Dan felt the same. Dan still had that love for Phil that he's had from the beginning, and he knew that 2012 was the cause of their falling out. Them not knowing their love for each other stood after 2012 was why they still kept the act on.
Neither wanted the other to think they were foolish for loving them. It was misunderstood.
Dan loved Phil but hid it with harsh words because he thought Phil hated him.
Phil loved Dan but hid it with silence and glares because he thought that Dan hated him.
It went on for years. It wasn't until 2017 that they reached an end.
