I held on tightly to my Container as a walk up to Detective Alec Hardy's house on the shore of Broadchurch.
"Alec?" I asked. The door was wide open. I set down my container on the couch. I quickly took off my coat. All the lights were off. I went to his room to see if something was wrong. Who and what I found wasn't Alec Hardy.
A man dressed in all black was sifting through Alec's drawers and closet. I slowly backed away. The wood creaked underneath me.
The man held up a gun. " hands up. Now!"
A car pulled into Alec's driveway. The man reached out a grabbed me around the neck. He pointed the gun at my head.
"(Y/N)?" Alec called out.
" walk out and act like nothing wrong. If you give me away you will be cleaning your boyfriends brains off the wall." He paused. " nod if we understand each other?"
I nodded.
I walked out and saw Alec. " Hey. I- i- brought you some left over stuff from the bakery." I pointed to the container on the couch.
" how did you get in?" He asked.
Crap.
I took out my phone. I went to text Alec but it was to late. The mans arm was around my neck and his gun was point to my head again.
Alec took out him gun.
" drop it! Or she gets it." The man spoke.
Alec didn't drop his gun. He cocked it instead. " hand her over. You can take whatever you came for. Just don't hurt her."
" drop the gun." The man instructed.
Alec didn't even move one inch.
" One, Two," he lowered the gun to my side and shot. It all happened so fast. Alec or I didn't have time to register what was going on until the man pushed me. The man then ran out of the house.
The pain was excruciating. I couldn't make sense of what was happening. My body was trying to reject the pain. The darkness kept sucking me back in, for a second or a minute? I didn't know. The agony made it that much worse to keep my head above the darkness.
Ripping. Breaking. Agony.
I felt Alec's arms wrap around me. His hands traveling to the source of my agony.
I could hear faint whispers of his voice.
I felt pieces of Me shattering, snapping, slicing apart.
" (Y/N). Stay... ambulance..."
Black spots covered the already blurry vision of Alec. My lungs ached, oxygen seemed to burn away.
I don't know how much time had passed. Seconds? Minutes? Hours?
All I knew was the pain was gone. I was numb. I couldn't feel. I couldn't see. The darkness had covered Alec's face. I could hear the ambulance. They sounded so far away.I felt the absence of Alec's warm hands. They were replaced by cold distant ones.
No! I wanted to scream. Put me back! But the darkness was to much. My body felt empty.
As if the darkness wasn't dark enough, another thick blindfold layered over me. Not just my eyes but my whole being. It had this weight I could explain. I tried to push against it but the pain that radiated off it was excruciating.
Just give in. Let the darkness push you down, down to a place where there is no pain, no worry, no fear.
But this isn't about me.
