Second time is a Charm

Chapter 26

Last chapter of the flash back.

                 

What Thomas said kept repeating in my head. How could I not have seen Gale for the man he was. A coward, dominating, male chauvinist pig, a puppet in the hands of his parents. Was I so blinded by his charm, that I failed to see what lied in the future. So many of these thoughts  had me looking back at every decision I took in life.

My parents had given me a free rein in so many things, I grew up being independent, and they too encouraged and always accepted my decision. So when I had told them that, I wanted to marry Gale, they never once questioned it.

I know I shouldn't be blaming them, but I fought with my mom for not stopping me from making such a grave mistake. I was becoming irritable, frustrated and a recluse.

Two days after sending the divorce papers, Gale called me.

"I received the papers you sent. So this is how you want to deal with it bitch." He sneered into the phone as soon as I answered it.

"Gale, language, please."

"What ...... I will call you anything I want, a bitch, a whore , a slut. Anything. You cant stop me."

I sighed at his childishness "What do you want?" I questioned

"Are you happy now, satisfied after screwing my life. I gave you my heart loved you the most, what did you do, break it into a million pieces by cheating on me."

"Gale..... let me make one thing clear. I have never cheated on you."

"Liar.. I saw you and Thomas in his house, almost naked, with my own eyes, I will believe that over you any day."

"If that's how it is, I am not going to argue. You refuse to even listen to the truth, so lets just call it a day and meet in court."

"I wont make it so easy for you Bitch..... What? You want a quick divorce so you can get together with your lover. Oh no... I am going to make you pay.... So much that you will wish that you hadn't even married me. I am going to make you beg for my forgiveness Whore" He said and slammed the phone.

After that my life became more hell. I couldn't go out anywhere, without people passing comments at me, calling me names or refusing to give me service at shops. It was getting worst everyday. My parents were facing the same wrath at work, and home was just one gloomy place.

Gale, refused to sign the papers, and just kept sending court orders, that I should honor my marriage vows and return home to him. I wasn't even successful in getting a job. Every place I went to refused to even conduct an interview.

I wasn't understanding, why Gale was not signing the divorce papers. He was the one to send them to me, so why the sudden change of mind. I called and requested him to just end it and sign the papers, but no, he wasn't letting me go . He said he didn't want a divorce, he wasn't going to let me go, and would happily accept me back if  I admit I Cheated on him and that I was sorry about it.

His mom would call me and say, that I was the one holding Gale back on this divorce, and that I should just let him go. She kept calling me to harass me more, so I stopped answering her number. A couple days later, she started calling me from different numbers to harass me.

When things got this worst, even my family which supported me earlier, started to turn its back. Gales parents where just not making things difficult for me but also for my family, they were slowly crumbling under the pressure. Maddy was spreading rumors and poisoning my aunts and uncles against me. They kept insisting, that I agree and accept that I cheated and end the whole ordeal. But I was as stubborn as him. When that didn't work, they started to pressurize my parents, to make me do that.
