The night was ending and Del was already asleep, and Scarlet was still here fangirling every five minutes. Alex and I stepped outside for a final goodbye for tonight. I closed the door behind me.
"Well, I hope you had fun-ish."
"Yeah, even when your friend was watching us like she is now."
Alex nodded his head towards the window. I looked and saw Scarlet just peeking around the curtain. I looked at her signaling her to stop. She slowly backed up. I looked back at Alex who had moved a little closer to me.
"Alex, I know what you're trying to do, but I can't right now. I have to take care of Del, and protect her. And I can't do that if I'm off dating someone. Maybe when Del's older. Okay?"
"Oh, sure."
I stuck out my hand. He grabbed mine and shook it.
"Well, see you around Alex."
"Oh, and the surprise is tonight around midnight, and it's for your sister."
"Oh, really? Well thanks."
"See you, Kira."
Alex started his walk home and I went inside. I slowly closed the door behind me.
"WHY!"
"Huh, why what?"
"Why didn't you kiss him?! He's perfect for you!"
"Like I told him, I can't date right now. I have to take care of Del."
"I'll watch her while you're with Alex."
"I told you this morning that I was given the responsibility of taking care of Del. not you."
"By who?"
"Sometimes I think you just don't listen to me while I'm talking to you. Now you need to get home. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Fine. see you later."
Scarlet went home finally. I started cleaning up everything like I do every night. I turn off all the lights and went to mine and Del's room. There I found Del all cuddled up in bed. I went over to her and gave her a kiss on the head.
"Good night Del."
I crawled in bed and tried to drift to sleep. It was almost midnight and I still wasn't able to fall asleep. I couldn't stop thinking about Alex. I didn't want to think about him. But what he had said had me thinking.
I was still laying down when I saw the glow of a candle outside our bedroom door. I looked to see that it was Peter. He walked over to Del and woke her up.
"It's a full moon tonight Delila. I want to show you something."
She was barely awake, but Peter picked her up and laid her down on his shoulder. They then left. I watched as the candle light disappeared. I have a feeling that Del's going to like her surprise.
But what had me thinking is "why midnight?" Why would Peter take her out at midnight to show her something. And what is so life changing about it.
I was getting up to get me a glass of water. I lit a candle and on my nightstand was the book about the table I was reading last night. There was a paper stuck in it. I turned to that page and saw it was where I had left off.
I read a few pages then I came to another part with a paper.
It read, "This can only be performed at night. Midnight. And on a full moon."
I had realized what this said. It was five minutes from midnight. I looked out the window, and there in the dark blue night sky was a full moon. Tears formed in my eyes. Peter knew I read this last night and thought he would blame Del's murder on me. So he put the book in my room on my nightstand.
"KIRA!"
