I woke up. I was still sore from the pain that Peter caused. I couldn't believe what had happened last night. Del was gone. I'll never get to see her again. Behind me I could hear crackling of wood. I quickly turned around to see fire had engulfed the surrounding forest.
"Not again. Am I cursed? Does everyone I love die? No! I have to know for sure that Scarlet is alive. She has to be."
I got up and looked at the forest full of flames. I looked down not knowing how I was going to make it through the fire to fin scarlet. As I was looking down, I saw something showing from underneath a patch of dirt. I got down on my knees. I swept the dirt away to find the gold ribbon. I picked it up.
"Now I have something to remind me of Del."
I put it in my pocket. Then looked back at the forest. I didn't know how to get to Scarlet's house from the stone table, but I still have to try. I started to run right into the flames of the forest. Not a single flame was burning me.
In less than five minutes I made it to Scarlet's house, but there was nothing but burnt wood and ashes. I fell to my knees.
"It's true. I have to be cursed. Everyone is gone."
Tears streamed down my face. I put my face in my hands trying to keep the tears from coming out.
"Who did this? Why did they do this?"
"That voice. Is it..."
I looked up to see her now standing there in front of her burnt down house. I got up and ran up to her. I hugged her in relief that she was alive.
She then pushed me off her and threw me to the ground. I looked up at her as she presumed a fighting position.
"Who are you? Are you the one who set this forest aflame?"
"No. You should know that Scarlet. You know I..."
"How do you know my name?"
"What are you talking about? You're my best friend. How do you not remember me?"
"I don't have any friends. So now explain who you are and how you know my name!"
I couldn't believe this. How could she not...I then saw on the right side of her head dry blood. She was hit in the head with something.
"I said explain who you are and how you know me!"
"My name is Kira, and you hit your head on something so you don't remember me."
"Is that so? Well I'm glad you came to save me, cause I don't think I would have made it out of this forest on my own."
Yep. Still the same old Scarlet. We have to hurry. The flames are getting bigger now.
"Oh, by the way. Nice tips."
"Huh?"
"Your hair. I like how you dyed the tips of your hair blond."
I pulled my hair over my shoulder to see what she was talking about. And to my surprize, my hair was blond at the tips. After Del died, I must have got a piece of her to remind me of her. Tears formed in my eyes once again as I remembered last night holding Del in my arms as she died.
"Come on. We have to get out of here."
I looked up at Scarlet who held her hand out to me to help me up. I grabbed her hand and she helped me to my feet. I looked around looking for a spot to run. I then found a very narrow area that wasn't on fire. I grabbed Scarlett's arm.
"This way!"
We ran right into the burning forest hoping to make it out unharmed. I wasn't sure about Scarlet, but the flames didn't hurt me one bit.
We made it out into to town which had not been harmed by the flames. There were firemen all around trying to control the flames.
"Scarlet, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. But how did you know exactly where to run to not get burned by the flames?"
"I don't know, but let's find a hotel to stay at for now."
