Season 1, Episode 2
Hours after the funeral, the girls all sat in Apple Rosegrille, a restaurant where they all used to hang out. "Why was Jenna there?" Aria asked all of them in confusion. "I guess she's back," Spencer said.
"That cop acted like we were suspects or something."
"Do you think we looked guilty?" Emily asked worriedly. "Why would we look guilty? We didn't do anything. We were asleep when Alison sneaked out to God knows where" Lianna said and took a sip from her lemonade.
"Except lie about the Jenna thing," Hanna muttered making Spencer look at her. "We promised we'd never bring up the Jenna thing again, remember? It never happened."
"Have you found a way to forget? I still wake up sometimes in the middle of the night." Aria said. "Aria, it was an accident."
Hanna takes out her flask and pours it into her glass. "It's medicinal," Hanna said making Lianna look at her in confusion. She was looking at a man who had a judging look on his face from a table behind them. "Cramps!"
"I don't get it. How does "A" know something about me that only Alison knew?" Emily said. "It's weird since Ali knew so much and we never got any from her" Lianna sighed as she played with her straw.
"I knew some," Spencer said while holding her cup making Lianna look up. "Go on," Aria said.
Hanna looked at her too when she didn't say anything. "Talk."
"I can't," Spencer said, Lianna's eyebrows raised as she looked at her and then at Hanna. "Spence! No, you are not gonna drop a bomb like that and just clam up!" Aria said.
"She'd so kill me if I told you."
"She's dead," Hanna said with her eyebrows raised making Spencer sigh.
"Ali was seeing someone that summer," Spencer said. "I knew she was keeping something from me!" Emily burst out and looked at the girls who raised an eyebrow at her. "...From us."
"Well, why didn't she want us to know?" Aria asked. "Because she never told us anything" Lianna sighed and leaned back in her chair with her arms crossed in front of her. She only realized now how they almost told Alison every bit of their secrets but got nothing from her in return.
"He was an older boy and he had a girlfriend," Spencer added before looking at me. "Who was it?" Emily asked.
Spencer shook her head and looked down. "She never told me his name."
"That's only half the secret," Hanna said to Spencer. "It's more than you ever got from her."
"How is it that Ali told us nothing, and we told her everything?" Aria asked.
"Because she made us feel like we were part of something special."
"We were."
"I miss that," Aria said with a sigh. "Me too," Spencer said.
"We all do," Lianna said and played with her straw once again when they all fell silent.
"I miss Ali," Emily said and played with the embroidered bracelet that Alison gave them. "I can't believe you still wear that," Hanna said making Emily look at the bracelet.
"Ali still wears hers," Emily said. "Wore."
"When Ali didn't come home that night, I knew something terrible must have happened, but there was always some part of me that imagined someday she'd just show up," Spencer said sadly. Lianna reached out and squeezed her arm before giving her a small smile.
