Chapter 4

"They are coming back so we don't have much time to talk." Deaton says as he started pulling some rubbing alcohol out. "You'll heal the same. Just not as quickly, because of Derek."

"Okay so how do you know all of this?" I ask.

"Actually, how do you know anything?" Scott question Deaton while he puts a bandage on Scott.

"It's a long story. What I can tell you is that I know about your kind. Your kind, I can help. This... This is something different." Deaton replies while looking at the hunter on the table with the slash wounds on his chest.

"Do you know what did that?" I inquire.

"No, but your family will. And this is the crucial part. They'll have some kind of record or book. It'll have descriptions, histories, notations, of all the things they have discovered." He replies urgently.

I'm gonna need to find it. "All the things? How many things are there?" Scott asks nervously. My jaw drops man this is going to be one interesting family history lesson. Before Deaton can answer we hear cars approaching.

"Hide." Deaton says.

Scott pulls me in a back room were it's dark and no one can see us.

"I'm starting to think I need to buy a more prominent 'closed' sign." Deaton states.

"Hello Alan." I hear Gerard say. I feel uneasy if he is here and he finds out Scott and I are here he is going to kill Scott by cutting him in half. I run a hand through my hair and look at Scott a look of nervousness passes between us

"It's been a while. The last I heard, you were retired." He continues.

"Last I heard, you followed a code of conduct." Deaton retorts.

  Go Deaton!

"If you hadn't noticed this body is one of ours." The comes from the voice of my father. Great my dad is here we are so freaking screwed.

"I did. I also noticed the gunpowder residue on his fingertips. So don't assume I'll be swayed by your philosophy just cause I'll answer a few questions."

"He was only 24." Dad points out.

"Killers come in all ages." Deaton retorts.

"All ages, sizes, shapes. It's the last one that concerns us." Gerard states.

"How about you tell us what you found?" Dad asks getting annoyed.

"See this cut? Precise. Almost surgical." This would be helpful if we saw the cut but it's still information. "But this isn't the wound that killed him. This had a more interesting purpose."

"Relating to the spine?" Gerard suggests.

"That's right. Whatever made this cut was laced with a paralytic toxin potent enough to disable all motor functions. These are the cause of death." Deaton says.

I'm guessing he is gesturing to the claw wounds.

"Notice the patterns on each side?"

"Five for each finger." Dad says.

"Each claw." Gerard corrects.

"As you can see, it dug in, slashed upward, eviscerating the lungs and slicing through the bone of the rib cage with ease."

"Have you ever seen anything like this before?" Dad asks.

"No." Deaton replies.

"Any idea at all what killed him?"
