Heather's POV

I looked at my parents in shock and they mirrored my reaction. If I didn't know better I'd swear my mom was tearing up. Nash and Cameron were both looking at me with a surprised expression trying to judge my next mood.

"Wh-what are you doing here?" I asked in a small voice. No one answered for what seemed like an eternity.

"We were looking for a secure location to set up a large lab" one of the soldiers finally replied. Awkward silence penetrated the air between us.

"Um why can't you do it in the city or at one of your quarantine zones" Nash wondered aloud.

"Some of the zones had been infected, couldn't risk them being near that. they are too important" another soldier said. I scoffed at that. 'Too important'. way to add to their egos!

"Nothing to say to me, huh? After all this time after shipping me out here, nothing! not a how are you? glad you're alive! we've missed you? but no! nothing!" I yelled taking the soldiers off guard. My mother looked at my father then back at me.

"There are no words to express how sorry I am.. how sorry we are.. for what happened between us," my mother finally spoke up. My father nodded along not saying a word still.

"Well good luck with your whole saving the world shtick but I think these fine men would like to escort us to a safe zone now since we are running out of supplies here," I said remaining emotionless. Nash reached out and touched my shoulder but he could tell by the ice in my eyes that I did not wish to be touched so he removed his hand.

"We will take you to a safe zone once you are inspected for wounds and we have made sure this facility is secure" the head soldier assured us. Nash, Cam, and I packed up some clothes and waited in our living area.

"How are you doing?" Cameron asked me. I looked over slowly.

"I'm fine" I lied.

"Are you sure?" Nash questioned.

"What does it matter whether I am fine or not?! you guys hug me and say sorry and then I smile like it helps but it doesn't! so why even concern you whether or not I'm fine??" I screamed. We heard a knock at the door and my mother stood there.

"May I speak with you?" she asked looking directly at me. I sighed and nodded. She gave a small smile as I walked towards her.

"I won't steal her away for too long" she chortled (my favorite word) lightly aiming to receive a kind response from Cameron or Nash, not receiving one from either. "Do they not like me?" she asked once out of ear shot.

"Why would they not like a mother who abandoned their best friend?" I asked sarcastically.

"We had so much going on then, we truly regret it and I miss you every single day. I was shocked to see you on YouTube with those boys, are you... involved with either?" she asked nervously.

"Yes mom, both actually, at the same time, cams usually on top though and me in the middle but you know how that works; one time one of their vine friends even joined......" I smirked at her scared face. "I'm kidding, doctor"

"Oh gosh you threw me for a loop there!" she sighed with relief.

"Why do you care what I do anyway?" I asked with acid in my tone.

"I'm still your mother," she snapped.

"You may have given birth to me but you are far from my mother!" I retorted. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly.

"I'm not here to fight with you. I wanted to talk to you about our plans for after this ordeal is over. Your father and I, well, we are actually looking for a place to live out here. and we thought that maybe you'd join us?" she said as more of a question.

"Yeah cuz that worked out so well the first time!" I laughed. She looked sincerely apologetic. "Ill think about it" I sighed and she gave a small smile.

"Well they will be taking you to a safe zone any minute. Just be careful" she whispered.

"You too..mom.."
