Heather's POV

The soldiers escorted us to a Humvee outside. They maneuvered their way through zombies and abandoned cars.

"Umm excuse me? have any of you heard how the Grier family is doing?" Nash questioned.

"And the Dallas family" Cameron added.

"I'm not high enough up to know that. Sorry kids" the one driving sighed. Nash and Cameron nodded and it went back to silence. I watched the scenery go by and it was all devastated. I laid my head on the cold window and closed my eyes. I was awoken a short time later by water droplets dancing off of the window.

"We are halfway there. I say we camp here for the night and get a fresh start tomorrow. I'm Charlie by the way. That's Gomez and that's Tom" he said. We all nodded in recognition.

"So heather, the scientists are your parents?" Tom asked. I looked down and nodded. "Why weren't you with them?"

"Because they gave me up when I was younger. I wasn't smart enough for them." I snapped.

"Oh I'm sorry," he said obviously embarrassed. I waved him off and looked up at the clouds. I could see the faint twinkle of stars behind the almost translucent clouds.

"Are you okay?" Nash asked so no one else could hear.

"Yeah," I sighed. "My mom wants me to move in with them, they're getting a place out here"

"What?!" Nash said a bit too excitedly. Cameron came over and joined the conversation.. he had the same reaction Nash did.

"Are you going to?" cam asked.

"I'm not sure. I feel like it would be so awkward and the same thing would happen again," I mumbled.

"Well whatever happens, you're welcome at my place always." Nash smiled. I had been living in Nash's guest house since I came out here basically.

"Thanks Nash," I returned his smile. Cameron looked a bit awkward so I smiled at him too. "Where would I be without you guys?" I said hugging them both. They just chuckled and embraced me. The rest of the night went by so slow. I couldn't fall asleep and neither could Nash or Cameron. They were both worried about their families. I guess in a way I was too, but more of the fact of whether or not I was going to have a family.
