Me and Mililani had just got done talking about not only my mama getting help but me to, and honestly I think....it's a really good idea. And when we get back the first thing I'll be doing is looking for us a good counselor. We were now just sitting here in silence looking at the tv on the wall, watching some tv show still waiting on mama to wake up.....

" I have to go...it's about that time." Mililani said. She had told me earlier that since its Sunday that she has to go back because she has classes tomorrow. So she rescheduled her flight for ten o'clock tonight, but I didn't want her to leave.

"Can't you just stay for at least one more day? I don't wanna be here by myself." I said laying my head on her shoulder

"You didn't want me to come at all at first now you don't want me to go, how you go do that?" She asked playfully slapping my leg and I shrugged

"Well, you know I can't stay. I got school work and so do you. You know I'm doing work for us both." She has been doing my work for me this past week and I'm thankful for that.

"I'm sorry best friend I swear when we get back I'll be more focused on school and I'll be able to do my own work."

"No. What you are going to do is help your mama get situated and get things figured out then after that, you can worry about school. But until then I got this, ok? Besides it's no big deal since we have all the same classes together."

"I know I just don't want you to over work yourself."

" I'm fine...trust me." She stood up gathering her things and I helped

"I can take you to the airport." I suggested

"Yea,ok" we got all of her things plus her stuff from the hotel and we were now at the airport waiting for her flight to be called.

"So when you get back I'll have you guys guest rooms set up and cleaned, so you won't have to worry about it when you get there."

"All by yourself?" I asked

"What? I won't be cleaning at all. I can't mess up these perfectly manicured nails." She said shaking her head with a frown making me laugh

"Nah. We have cleaners come out and clean." She said shrugging

"Flight 216...flight 216, will take off in 30" we heard on the loud intercom. We stood and she grabbed her suit case and her small carry-on bag

"Well, hopefully I'll see you in a day or two" she said reaching out for a hug which I happily gave her

"Yea hopefully..." I said pulling away. I really hope I could go back in a day or two, but I don't know if that will happen.

"Don't sound so down, think positive and keep yourself occupied, ight?"

" yea, got it." I said giving her one last hug

"I'll be praying for yall! I'll call you when I land!" She yelled walking backwards then finally turned around and disappeared into the crowd. Sighing I made my way back to the car, since lani is gone I figured....that I could go to my old home and grab my mom's personal things and things she would need. I pulled up and just looking at this house sent chills down my spine. I knew that since it was around nine at night, John or his son wouldn't be home, they would usually be out at this time of night doing what ever it is they'd do. I took a deep breath and exited my car.

"You got this, nobody's home, and it's just a house." I said to myself as I made my way up to the door. I unlocked it stepping in I felt the familiar feel of coldness and loneliness. It was trashed, there was broken glass on the floor, beer cans and other liquor bottles scattered around it was a mess. I had a bad feeling but I ignored it and went to my mom's room to gather her things together as quickly as possible. I grabbed what I could and jetted out the door, I couldn't stand being in that house of fuckery any longer.
Once I had made it back to the room I ate something and chilled letting the time fly by

My phone went off indicating that I had a message I looked down and seen it was Mililani

Me- no, not yet. But I won't lose hope

Me- ok, be safe....

Before locking my phone I looked at my clock and seen it was twenty-five till twelve. Time done flew by....
I looked over to my mama and took in her injuries...I don't know what we did to deserve any of this, but once we get to California I'm hoping everything will change for the better. I don't want no drama no beef, nothing I just want to finally live my life and be free.

"Mama, I know you can't here me but I just want you to know that I got us. When you wake up you won't have to worry about anything, there will be no John or Malachi(the boy John took in as his son) we gon be able to live a happy and stress free...." I said as I grabbed her hand and gave it a light squeeze. And jumped when I felt her squeeze back.

"....um...........umm" I heard and damn near jumped out of my skin from happiness

"Mama!" I said and her eyes fluttered open. I ran to the other side of the bed and tapped the nurses button repeatedly

"M-Mama...I'm so happy your awake" I said rubbing the side of her face with the back of my hand and she leaned into my touch. Her nurse had came in and greeted us both

"Hi, it's great to see you awake Mrs. Shane, and how are you today Ms. Kodie?" She said looking over at me with a small smile

"I'm great, it feels good to see her beautiful eyes again..."I was really excited that she had awakened, and the sight of her eyes warmed my heart. Though they seemed dull and dark and completely striped of life, her dull brown orbs still excited me. It was a feeling of relief that washed over me.

"I bet you are! You were pushing that button so fast I'm surprised you didn't break it." She said with a laugh walking over to my mom

"As I said before, it's good to see you awake and ok, but I do have to ask you a few questions just to make sure everything is Ok..it's a basic procedures for a coma patient" She stated and my mom nodded since she couldn't speak

"Ok so, do you remember who you are?" She asked and my mom nodded

"Do you remember your age, and how you had gotten here in the first place?" I look at my mom and in that moment I seen defeat and pain in her eyes..... it hurt me on the inside because I know that it's partially my fault....... . A single tear fell down her cheek before she slowly nodded again

".....ok, all seems well, I'm sure your thirsty so I'll go get you some water and medicine for the pain, then I'll run a few test to be positive that everything is alright" with that she walked out the room

"Mama I'm sorry I left you.....but things are looking better for us now and as soon as I can get you out of here were leaving for good, there's nothing for us here. And I know you love him but.....he doesn't love you ma. If a man loves a woman he treats her like the queen she is, not like he's been treating you. Were leaving for good, and we won't look back."...........
