Link's family farmCedric's pov
The tension between Ainsley's and Link's brother is so thick you could cut it with a knife. I know for fact things are going to be difficult enough with or without me and Bear here to support Link. Not only that, but Bear looks like he might keel over any second now, he is that pale.
"We will be fine." I murmur as I squeeze his neck in comfort and he relaxes a slight degree. If I mutter it enough times, the words might come through and we will get through this in one piece. All three of us. "Cedric Andrews." I hold my hand out the man closes to me, some of them surprised by the fact that I take charge of the situation. Link breaks eye contact, Bear pushes the trolley after hugging Ainsley towards the exit after sighing in relief. My hand dangles there in mid-air for a few minutes before the brother looks me up and down and silently shakes my hand. Taking what I can get, I steer Link after Bear and Ainsley and the group of men follow behind us. Not a word is uttered by them, the silence only broken by Ainsley's nervous chatter and inquisitive questions about Lance.
I am sure that Lance will be satisfied like the cat that got the cream when he hears about this. I had noticed that when Ainsley turned up at Lance's place, he has been very intrigued by the man. However the man himself doesn't know how to handle the situation. Or most likely will ignore the situation until it goes away. But if Ainsley is anything like Link, then Lance has his work cut out for him as I am sure Ainsley will not be pushed away that easily. The brother gives me a rough shove as I am apparently not moving quickly enough. Stubbornness must run in the family. I muss as the brother doesn't breathe a word, nor do any of the other males.
On our way, the road dips behind quite some high hills and we pass stunning scenery. Yet neither males sitting beside me or in front of me glance out the window as they keep their eyes adverted from it and are locked on Link and Ainsley, as if they take their eyes off the, they will disappear again without a word. Not that I blame them, but this is very uncomfortable for everyone in the car.
The guy in the front seat smirks in superiority when I grunt as my head bounces off the car window after a tight turn. "That is enough Fergus!" Link roars, reaching forward to either hit or pull at his brother. Thankfully Bear intervenes by holding on tightly on his arms. Link is seething and I can tell he will lash out as soon as we arrive at our destination. After what feels like an eternity, we arrive near a farm like cottage on a huge plot of land. Seeing the amount of people milling about, I can only guess that all the other outbuildings are used as houses for the majority of the people moving about.
"Home sweet home." Link mutters darkly under his breath as we get out and start unloading our suitcases. Most people stop what they are doing and stare at us. Poor Ainsley doesn't get a chance to step a foot out of the vehicle before he is whisked away by who I presume are his parents. "Bear? Let's get our stuff inside." Bear seems to snap out of a daze as he stared at the main building, where a quite intimidating woman is standing on the threshold with her arms crossed. He follows sedately after Link marches up to the woman, who after a few seconds of staring steps aside, not letting up on the nasty glare as Bear and I pass her.
The hallway oozes homeliness; it comes out every pore and makes one feel welcome and at ease. Bear bounces up the stairs, fully focused on Link's back, forcing himself not to take in any of the lovely atmosphere in the house. Shaking my head sadly, I follow them on a more relaxed pace, curious about the place that shaped the base of the man that Link is today.
Picture after picture lines the wall. Most of them are about Link and his brothers doing God knows what in the wilderness that stretches out behind the house. In most of them they are all smiling, until I spot a picture of Link graduating Police school. Cause in the picture after that, there is no Link to be seen. Just several of his brothers getting married and starting his own family.
