Atticus POV

There was a strange ache that had formed in my chest as I looked down at Sylis, the tall buff man who usually towered over me was now on his knees in front of the bed. He looked like a prisoner who was about to be executed before a crowd.

His cheeks were wet with rebel tears and he did nothing to hide the pained look on his face. His chest had blood smeared across it and it was beginning to crust. My eyes made there way back up, my heart sinking to my stomach as I saw the look he had in his eyes.

The look in his eyes is really what made my stomach churn. Pain and sorrow swirled together in the pool of gold as he looked up at me.

Something was wrong.

"E-Eric, you an-and Jackie get out of here. I-ill call y-you when I nee-need you." Sylis said, forcing his lips to twitch upward into a smile as he looked at them.

"Sylis." Alpha Eric said, his voice full of pity.

"Go Eric. Please. Let Atticus do this privately. Besides i-i don't you two to see me like this." Sylis said softly with a silent plead, his smile faultering as he looked up at his one and only friend from his position on the floor.

With some reluctance and a sad smile Alpha Eric nodded. Gently the Alpha grabbed the Luna's hand, only for her to pull away with a look of disbelief on her face.

"Jackie don't fight. We tried to help, but there's nothing we can do. It's up to Atticus now." He said quietly, as if he didn't want me to hear.

What's up to me? What's happening?

"We can't jus-" she started only for the Alpha to cut her off.

"Jackie, let me explain everything to you out in the hall." Alpha Eric said, gently leading her out of the room.

Explain what? Why were they leaving? Why weren't they helping Sylis?

I looked back down to the man on the floor, his head hung low with the heel of his palms digging into his eyes in attempt to stop the tears.A sob slipped past his lips, yet he was quick to cover it up by letting out a slow breath of air. After a minute of him trying to calm down he gently wiped his eyes and looked up at me.

"Go ahead little pest." Sylis said calmly, his velvet voice laced with sorrow as it cracked towards the end of his sentence.

I whimpered as I gripped my bear tightly in my arms. Why did he want me to say it so bad? Was this a trick? Does he not like me anymore? Did I make him hate me?

"At-atticus please, don't be afraid. I-i know this is what." He whispered softly, his lips twitching into a weak smile." I-i know your afraid of me. I-i know you don- you don't." he paused only for a sob to rip through his chest." I know you don't love me."he said, pushing the words out as if it pained him to say them.

My eyes filled with tears as I looked at the broken man on the floor before me. That was the only way to describe Sylis at this point. Broken.

"Sy-sylis h-hurt?" I asked softly.

"Please," he pleaded, his head hanging low and his eyes not meeting mine." Please don't pity me. That's the last thing I want from you." He whispered.

I looked down to the needles that were buried in my arm, a frown forming on my lips. With my eyes clenched shut and my teeth digging into my tongue to prevent my whimper from slipping out, I ripped the needles from my arm. I swallowed the whimper that had bubbled up my throat as the pain shot through my arm. Fearfully I looked down, gulping as I saw the blood oozing from the puncture wounds. I rolled the sleeve of my shirt down over it, the fabric soaking it up immediately.

Carefully I crawled over to his side of the bed and looked down at him. His head was still bowed, his eyes clenched shut in attempt to keep his tears from falling. Gently I slid off the bed, a pain filled gasp leaving my lips as pain shot through my aching ribs. I began to collapse onto the hard wood floor but familiar arms caught me.

I looked up to Sylis, who wore a heartbroken look on his face as he held me and slowly placed me in his lap. I heard whimpers leaving his lips as he buried his face in the nape of my neck, my body freezing in his arms as he rubbed his nose along the base of my throat. I basked in the warmth his body provided me, warmth I had been missing these past few days. Slowly his whimpers faded away and his head slowly lifted up, his hands clenching my shirt as if he didn't want to let me go.

"Sy-sylis bro-broked." I said, sitting in his lap, the only barrier between us being my bear.

"Yea," he said softly with a humorless chuckle."I'm broken." He whispered, his eyes not meeting mine, his arms falling from around me. "Atticus just do it. Please just get it over with." His voice cracked as he spoke, his shoulders beginning to shake.

I lifted his head up with my small hands, the sight I saw scaring me. Tears tumbled fast down his cheeks and he did nothing to try and stop them as he looked at me.

Sylis wasn't supposed to cry.

"Sy-sylis cr-cry." I whined, my thumbs gently wiping his tear soaked cheeks.

"I-it hurts Atticus. It hurts to know you're afraid if me. It hurts to know you don't love me. It hurts right here." He said, grabbing my hand and placing it on his chest over his heart." It hurts to know you want to reject me." He whispered.

His heart thumped strangely inside his chest, as if it was struggling to continue pumping.

"Jackie no!" I heard Alpha Eric yell as Luna Jackie came barreling through the door way.

"Atticus stop!" She commanded, a whimper escaping my lips as I curled into myself in an attempt to hide from her. "If you reject Sylis. He will die." She said sternly.

I gasped, my eyes filling with tears as I quickly turned my head to look at Sylis.

"Sy-sylis li-lie At-atticus." I whimpered.

Sylis didn't move. His head was still hung low and his tears fell from his jaw line into my bear.

"Sy-sylis l-lie!" I screamed, slamming my fists into his chest.

"Sy-sylis s-says lies! S-says l-lies vo-voice!" I cried as I punched his chest, tears streaming down my cheeks as he did nothing but take the punches without even a little flinch.

"Jackie. Get out. You've done enough damage this week. Go to our room." Alpha Eric snapped.

The Luna looked at him in shock, her jaw hanging open in shock.

"Now!" He yelled, making me scream as his yell pierced my ears.

I slammed my hands over my ears, digging my nails into my head as I rocked back and forth.

"Atticus stop." Sylis said gently and attempted to pry my hands from my head." Atticus Please, stop." He begged his velvet voice cracking.

"S-says li-lies." I cried pushing his hands away from me.

"I only lied to keep you from pitying me. If you want to know the truth, here's the truth. You don't love me so our bond is breaking. When our bond breaks I'm going to die." He said with a heartbroken chuckle, tears streaming down his face."I hate lying to you, but I don't want you to pity me. That is the last thing I would ever want you to do, pity me." He said.

"At-ticus d-dos lov-ies S-sylis." I whimpered, pushing his chest.

"No, Atticus. You don't. If you loved me, you wouldn't be afraid of me. You wouldn't need Valentin to be in control in order for me to even touch your hand. You're terrified of me. You don't love me. So just reject me. Get it over with! Please! Atticus I'm begging you! It hurts. It hurts so fucking much Atticus! Please just reject me!" He cried, his glossy and pleading golden orbs locking with mine. "Please." He whimpered, placing his head on my shoulder.

My heart pumped faster, fear running through my veins. I've never seen this side of Sylis and it scares me. It scares me because I don't know what to do.

It's scares me, because deep down I know he's right.
