Chapter 31

It's been nearly a month since the incident in The Dark Roast.

Dean fell into a depressive state without Cas by his side. His brother called in to check on him twice a week and he would lie and say he was fine.

But he wasn't fine. He was broken. He knew he probably should have reached out to Cas - texted or called him or something - but he didn't.

Doing that would just make the situation more complicated than it already was. The one thing Cas didn't need in his life right now was complicated.

So Dean stayed away. For Cas's own good. It hurt. It hurt him a lot. But if Cas was okay, that's all that mattered.

He spent the day working from home - he didn't want there to be the chance of Cas coming and finding him at work - and the late hours at night drinking heavily.

His brother Sam called him from the hospital, telling him that he should call Cas - do something that wasn't wallowing in your dark apartment all alone at night.

"Stop feeling bad for yourself. Cas has it much harder than you do right now. If I learned anything from being with Jessica, it's that you need to be selfless when it comes to love. Selfishness is all that people like Dad have. Don't become Dad."

He knew Sam was right. Sam was always right. It invigorated Dean to admit, but it was the truth.

Now he had to take action for himself. He knew that he cared for Cas a lot - more than anyone besides his brother - but was this love? Did he love Cas?

Maybe being selfless for once would bring him the answer he was looking for.

He picked up the phone and dialed Cas' number.

A/N: ooh look who finally decided to update! I won't lie to y'all and say that updates will be coming more often because that would be a - well - lie, but I've been reading a book all morning that focuses around a fangirl that ships the main two guys on her favorite tv show (which is so obviously inspired by supernatural and the glorious ship that is destiel) so I got inspiration and decided to write this chapter for y'all.
