Cas looked back at Amelia, soaking up what she had just said. Is she being serious? He asked himself as he slowly lowered himself back into the chair across the table from her.
"Why would you want me to sign custody papers?" He asked her.
Amelia looked ashen. "I'm sick, Cas." She swallowed, like it had gotten hard for her to breathe. "And I won't be able to take care of Claire. I-I may not even live longer than a year."
These words made his eyes sting. He wasn't going to cry. He didn't care about her anymore. You hate her. He reminded himself. You don't love her anymore.
"So-" he started, thinking of Claire "-Claire will grow up w-without a mother?" He could barely make the words come out of his mouth.
Amelia nodded, a single tear rolling down her cheek. Cas made a move to wipe the tear away, but stopped mid-movement. Instead, he stood up and dug his face in his hands.
It wasn't long until he felt the soft touch of a hand on his shoulder. "Claire needs you." Amelia said into his ear. "She needs her father." Then she slipped something in his pocket and left.

That night, instead of meeting Dean at his apartment like he had promised, he headed straight home. He couldn't bare any more human interaction for the day. He had to be alone with his thoughts. He had to process everything that was happening.
So that night, Cas laid in bed alone and thought about all of the things that had been happening in his life recently. His brother in the hospital. His internship. Dean. Amelia.
It was all too much. Cas had never been one to deal with his feelings very well. He had always pushed them to the side. Feelings were a distraction and they did nothing for him, but now, now it was becoming more difficult than ever to push anything aside.
So he let the walls he built up fall. He let it all fall.
A/N: Ergh it's been so long! I apologize for not updating! I've had such bad writers block and I've been in a reading slump. I'm getting back in the groove, though so expect more updates!
Also, I would love if you guys voted for me in the 2017 Fanfiction awards! It would mean a lot!
