:::Emma's POV:::

My fingers gripped the phone as I talked to my mother. I have to tell her. I have to do it now or I never will. She's going to flip, but it's going to be okay. Everything will work itself out. It just has to. If it doesn't then I don't know what I'll do. I took a deep breath and said it out loud to her for the first time.

"Mom I don't know how to even say this, but you need to hear it." I sighed. "I'm pregnant."

"You're what!" She exploded on the other end of the phone. "I knew something like this would happen when you moved out there on your own! I just knew it! California is no place for a freshman in college!"

"Mom you didn't even let me tell you what happened." I argued, but it was no use.

"Is it at least Brandon's?" She asked me. Brandon had been my boyfriend when I first started my winter term out here, but he'd cheated on me and that was over pretty damn fast.

    "No." I sighed.

"He was pre med!" She groaned. "You're going to screw up your whole life young lady!"

"He was also a cheating asshole!" I shouted. "And it's my life to screw up if that's what I want!" My hormones are just off the wall.

"How far are you?" She sighed after a long period of silence.

"Three months." I said softly as I placed my hand over my belly.

"Is Patience still letting you stay with her?" She asked.

"Yeah Mom, she is." I sighed thinking about how I'd be lost without my best friend. She moved out here with me to go to college. She was amazing.

"Who's the father?" Mom asked hesitantly.

That's where the story gets good. "Remember that band I'm obsessed with? Emblem3, yeah it's Drew's baby." I said.

There was dead silence on the other end of the phone just as I'd expected. "Does he know?" She sighed heavily after a second.

"Nope." I said running my fingers through my tangled hair. "And I'm not going to tell him. I'm not going to be one of those groupies who tries to track down some musician because he got her knocked up on a one night stand."

"Emma Grace is this a prank?" She shouted. "I'm going to have a stroke out here!"

"No Mom it's not a joke, and calm down. I'm fine, and plus I have Patience to help me out here so I'm totally not on my own." I shifted my weight. Even over seven thousand miles away my mother still made me feel incapable.

"Well I love you no matter what but you need to do some serious soul searching. Don't make Patience responsible for your mistakes." She lectured.

"Stop right there!" I cut her off. "This baby isn't a mistake Mom. The gift of life is a magical thing and I'm honored to be a part of this. I mean sure it's not ideally timing, but I plan on making the best of the situation I've gotten myself into. With or without the support of you Mom."

"Well if that's how you feel then I don't know why you even mentioned it." She said huffing.

"Mom I just wanted to be honest. You raised me to stand up for what I believe and that's all I'm doing. I believe having this baby is what's right, and I'm leaving Drew Chadwick out of it because I'm sure he has better things to do than worry about the small town girl from Maryland that he got pregnant." I said honestly as I fiddled with my hair some more.

"Well call me nuts but I support your choice honey. I love you and I'll call again next week when I have time, but my lunch is over so I need to go." She sighed after a minute of processing everything I'd said.

"Thank you Momma, and I love you too." I said.

After we hung up I sat down on the couch and saw the baby book Patience had gotten for me to fill out. I picked it up and looked through some of the pages. Most of the beginning was about the family of the mother and father, then it asked questions about cravings I had and music that's popular while I'm pregnant. I grabbed a pen and filled in some of those pages.

Mothers full name: Emma Grace Denis

    Mothers birthday: 01-05-1995

    Mothers favorite color: Green

After some more of those typical questions I came to the fathers page. I wrote Drew's full name and birthday then sighed as I skipped the rest. I then came to a question that made me feel sick. It asked, "how did Mommy and Daddy meet?" I debated leaving it blank but then I decided why not fill it in. I'm sure the question will come up eventually and I won't lie about it.

How did Mommy and Daddy meet: Mommy's best friend got her tickets to see her favorite band, which Daddy was a part of. I got to meet the band and it was my birthday so we decided to celebrate together which was awesome. After that Mommy and Daddy shared a romantic experience and Daddy left on tour with his band. Three weeks later I found out I was pregnant.

I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I filled in the lines in the baby book with nothing but the truth. By the time I put the pen down I was all out sobbing and I couldn't bare to write another sentence or even look at the book for another second. I closed the book and stood up to go to my room and take a nap before Patience came home and found me a blubbering mess.
