A/N: The song in this chapter is by Nickleback and it's called Lullaby (I can't attach it for some reason but if you haven't seen the video you should give it a gander on YouTube haha). For the sake of the story though lets pretend Drew wrote it. Also if anything else about Emma's condition doesn't seem realistic just pretend. After all this is a fictional story. Thanks for reading and the support. Don't forget to vote and comment. I love you all!! **********************************************************************************************************
:::Wes's POV:::
It's been a month and I've seen Drew one time. He looked like hell then too. I made my way to his house with Patience behind me. She was scared about the baby since she had called Drew numerous times and he ignores her. She fears that Drew gave him up for adoption or something. Drew's cars here so I knock twice and wait tapping my foot.
Suddenly the door opens and Drew's standing before my with a binky in his right hand and his left around his son holding him on his hip. "What?" Drew asked bitterly. He looked like he hadn't slept in weeks. His eyes were ringed with dark circles and he looked like he'd been through a war.
"I came to check on my best friend." I said regaining my composure.
"Well I'm fine." He snapped. Patience shifted her weight and Drew cut his eyes to her. His face softened and he looked to the ground. "Come in." He mumbled moving to let us inside.
We went in and he closed the door leading us to the sitting room. "Ca-can I hold him?" Patience asked softly looking at Lyric.
Drew looked curiously at her but nodded slowly. He lowered his son gently into her arms and backed away. "If he starts crying set him in the pack and play. We're working on the whole self soothing thing." Drew said running his hand through his tousled hair yawning.
"Drew have you slept at all?" I asked.
He shook his head. "I got two hours last night which is an improvement. Lyric doesn't sleep well at night, and I spend most of my days with Emma."
The way he talked it sounded like he was with someone hanging out, not that he was spending his day at her bedside in the hospital. "Why haven't you called man? I'd have watched him or something so you can sleep." I offered.
"I want to do it Wes. He's all I have." He said glancing at the baby in Patience's arms as he squirmed around.
"You've got me Patience and Keats, Drew. And I know your mom would come." I said not wanting to set him off. It's like walking on eggshells.
"I want to do it on my own. I have to be able to do this." He said sounding determined.
"What are you trying to prove?" I asked.
"I can do this Wes. I looked at him yesterday and all I saw was her eyes. I want to keep him safe, like I couldn't do for her." He sighed holding back tears that threatened to spill over.
"Drew you couldn't have saved her." I said.
"She's still alive you know." He grumbled.
Our moment was interrupted by a sniffle from Patience. "What is it?" I asked looking at her.
"Drew did you write this?" She held up a paper from the coffee table in front off her.
His eyes widened and he nodded. "I sing it to make Lyric sleep." He said sheepishly.
I crossed the room and took the paper. It was the best most sad song Drew'd ever wrote. I read it again realizing this is how he feels now. It said:
