:::Drew's POV:::

Six months have passed. Lyric is six months old today. He's the happiest baby I've ever even seen and everyday he looks more like me, except his eyes. They are Emma's eyes, and looking into them kills me. At night I read Lyric a page from the baby book Emma and I made, and once he's asleep I cry until I can't anymore. I know she wasn't my girlfriend but I wanted her to be. Hell I wanted to marry her!

The song Lullaby (as management shortened it) was number one right now holding steady at its third week. We have a tour coming up soon and I have to go. Wes and Keaton told me to bring Lyric along. Patience even offered to come and watch him when I'm busy, but I just don't want to leave really. I feel like if I leave or move on it's like I'm giving up on Emma.

"Hey buddy, let's go inside and see mommy." I said hoisting Lyric out of his car seat as I carried him into the hospital.

I flashed my visitor badge at the desk and went to the room at the end of the hall. I switched out the roses and sat down with Lyric in my lap next to Emma's bed. The table next to her has three pictures of me and Lyric on it that I brought in recently. She hasn't moved in six months, and she still isn't breathing on her own. The doctor told me if she doesn't wake up or stabilize in this week that there's no possibility that she'd live.

"Hi Em, we came to see you again." I spoke as though she was listening to me. "Lyric said his first word yesterday. Well he said DA but same thing." I pictured her laughing. "Anyway, I wanted to let you know we'll be going on tour soon, and um, we won't be visiting."

I was about to continue when her hand twitched. I caught it out go the corner of my eye, but I swear I saw it. I jumped up and clutched Lyric. I pressed the nurse call button a hundred times and a short blonde bounced in.

"What sir?" She asked.

"She moved! Her hand moved!" I said pointing excitedly.

Her eyes widened. She checked somethings on Emma and her machines then looked around curiously. "Impossible." She muttered looking at Emma's chart. She checked Emma over again and looked back at me and Lyric. "I'll be right back." She said leaving the room.

A good twenty minutes went by and she came back with Emma's regular doctor who's name I learned as Darcy. "Check for yourself." The nurse exclaimed in disbelief.

Darcy did a few vital checks and the checked Emma's machine read outs. She looked up at me and smiled. "Well Mr. Chadwick as persistent as you are I'm happy to tell you, you might just beat those five percent odds." She chuckled. "Emma's breathing on her own, and her brain activity is stabilized at a normal level."

My heart soared with joy and a lump formed in my throat. "So she's okay?" I asked.

"She's improving." The doctor smiled. "That is a huge step."

I nodded. It might not be a lot but it's a start, and it means everything to me. "Hear that Lyric? Mommy's starting to get better." I cooed making him jabber his baby words.

As he jabbered Emma's hand twitched again making me jump. "Oh my!" Darcy walked over to Emma's bed and did a few things and looked back at me. "I think she can hear you."

:::Wes's POV:::

We leave for tour tomorrow and Drew hasn't packed. Well that's a lie, he's packed Lyric's bags. He hasn't packed his own though. Ever since he found out Emma can hear him he's been in that hospital nonstop. They took her off life support last week and she's steadily breathing on her own. Patience went to visit her this morning and said she's still in a coma though. I think Drew feels like if we leave she'll wake up and he won't be there. I feel for him I do, but this is a big tour for us.

"Wes!" Patience yelled as she came in my apartment without knocking. "I brought Lyric over. Drew didn't show up to pick him up and I have to go to the college to turn in my assignments before we leave tomorrow or I'm going to fail out."

I nodded my head and waltzed into the living room as she sat him down on the floor. He's about eight months now and he gets into everything. "Hey there little man!" I crouched down to his level and ruffled his hair.

"I called Drew and left a message telling him you'd have Lyric." Patience said.

"Yeah I can handle the little monster." I laughed as Lyric scooted over to the couch and tried to pull himself up.

"Okay, but please pay attention to him. If he gets hurt Drew will never forgive us." She said easing her way to the door.

"I've got it covered." I waved my hand making her laugh.

"See ya later cutie." She said clearly talking to the baby.

"You too." I winked making her laugh again.

"Shut up." She smiled.

I was out of the room for about two point three seconds and Lyric managed to knock over a potted plant and cover himself head to toe in dirt. I sighed and scooped him up. I don't know how Drew does it honestly. Just as I had Lyric all cleaned up Drew strolled in the front door.

"Hey man." I smiled handing off his kid.

"Hey, whys he smell weird?" He asked.

What does he have daddy senses now? "Um, I had to get the dirt off him and I used those wipe things in his bag." I shrugged.

"Why'd he have dirt on him?" Drew laughed.

"He may have spilled it out of that plant." I pointed.

Drew shook his head laughing again. He looks happy for a change. "When do we leave?" He asked.

"Tomorrow at noon." I answered waiting for him to try and back out.

"Okay, well I guess I'll see ya then." He smiled. "Sorry I was late. I was packing while I had a minute to myself."

Well that's new. "Yeah, see ya then." I agreed.
