Chapter 12: Starting a New Adventure

"Life is either a great adventure or nothing." -Helen Keller

When I woke up again the next morning, I yawned and stretched. I threw the blankets off of me, and Tucker jumped down. I crawled out of bed and trudged tiredly to my closet. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as I opened the door.

I looked around the closet for something to wear, and decided on a pair of cut off denim shorts, and a white strapless tube top that had a stylish light brown belt with it. I also grabbed a pair of socks, and my black Supras.

I walked to the front door first, with Tucker leading the way, and opened the door to let him out. He immediately spotted a squirrel and ran after it.

I shut the door and made my way to my bathroom, and shut the door behind me. I turned on the shower to warm up and then stripped out of my pajamas and tossed them into the hamper I had in there. I tested the water to see if it was warm enough before I climbed in.

Immediately, my senses woke up and started to properly function. I sighed in relief as my tense muscles came to a relaxation state, and then I started to wash my hair again. I usually always wash my hair in the mornings, because when I have nightmares, sometimes I sweat really bad.

Once I was clean and feeling refreshed, I shut off the water and then stepped out of the shower. I grabbed my towel off of the towel hook and wrapped it around my nude body, so that I could dry off.

While I was drying off, there was a knock on the bathroom door. "Yes?!" I called out.

"Lani, honey, when you're done, you have vistiors in the living room!" my mom called back through the closed door.

"Yes, ma'am!"

I was quick to get dressed, wondering who my visitors were.

I strapped the belt around my waist as I walked out of the bathroom. I made my way to the living room, still adjusting the belt so that the buckle was in the middle. "Having fun?" a familiar male voice asked.

My head snapped up quickly and I saw the McDonough brothers standing in my living room.

"What?" I asked, shocked to see them.

"I said, 'Having fun?' Did you hear me that time?" Riley asked, a smirk on his face.

"Oh, huh, yeah. I guess? I was just trying to get my belt adjusted right," I answered him. "Anyway, what brings you over here?"

"We came to ask you if you wanted to hang out again today," Toby answered.

"Oh. I actually have something to do first. If y'all wanna meet me at Starbucks in about an hour, we can hang out then," I told them.

"Oh, sure. What exactly is it that you have to do?" Connor asked, holding my gaze with his, making my heart race again.

"Nope, segreto," I said, smirking as I used Italian on these goofballs.

They each had dumbfounded and quizzical looks on their faces, making me giggle. "What?!"

"Secret. 'Segreto' means secret in Italian," I answered, giggling again.

"That's awesome! Can you speak any other languages?" Riley asked, excitedly.

"I speak a little Irish and German. I learned to communicate with family," I said.

"You're German and Irish?" Connor asked.

"And Italian and Choctaw Native American," I answered, giggling at their expressions.
