Chapter 7: No way!
"Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans." –John Lennon
I was sitting in the truck, after a morning of driving around Orlando, surveying the parts we hadn't been to yet. We used to come to Orlando all the time when we had yearly passes to Universal Studios there. We've been to all sorts of Mardi Gras/Summer Concert Series concerts at Universal and I loved it.
We had lunch at T.G.I. Friday's and now we were headed home.
I had my headphones in my ears, listening to All You Need is Love by The Beatles. Best British band of their time! Like, for real. I love classics like them. I'm really into the old musicians and bands, like The Beatles, *NYSNC, Backstreet Boys, and lots of 80s music, too.
Suddenly, my dad started to slow down and I glanced up from Facebook on my phone. We weren't quite home, yet, so why were we slowing down?
I looked out of my window and saw a fairly nice house, one story, with a nice garden out front. I also spotted a beautiful short cab Chevy truck, blue, and no older than the 80s. It was in perfect condition. Want to know what was even better?
IT WAS FOR SALE! For only $1500!
"What are we doing here?" I asked my dad quizzically.
"We're going to talk to the owners about that truck," Dad answered, grinning at me.
"No way! Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!" I cheered, yanking the headphones out of my ears, ignoring the sting, and turning off my music.
My parents laughed at me and my dad turned off the truck.
I eagerly climbed out of the truck and ran over to the beauty being sold and possibly to me. I walked around it and checked out all the little details.
The paint job was fairly new, and the interior was in great condition.
I tested the doors to see if it was locked or not, but unfortunately, it was locked. I kicked the tires to check air and they were stiff, so either new tires or there had recently been air put in them.
The truck was perfect. I was in love.
"I see that you like the truck, young lady," I hear an elderly voice speak from behind me.
I whirled around and smiled at the elderly man genuinely as I replied, "Yes, sir. It's in great condition. What year is it?"
"1972. She's a beauty, ain't she?" he asked.
"Very beautiful," I answered breathlessly.
"She's a 4×4 2500 Silverado pickup truck, with a 350 V-8, fuel injected motor. Runs beautifully. I restored her myself," he explained.
"Wow," I replied.
"Why don't you sit inside and see how you like the feel of the inside?" the old man asked, retrieving a set of keys from his pocket. He unlocked the door for me and opened it.
I eased myself up into the driver seat of the truck. This was a dream come true. This was my truck. I just knew it. This was the truck for me!
I put my hands on the steering wheel and just sat there, taking in the feel of sitting in this beautiful 1972 model truck.
I looked up at my dad with puppy dog eyes. "Can we get it, Daddy?!" I asked excitedly.
The three adults laughed and my dad glanced at my mom. My mom smiled at him and said, "I think we should, Joey. She seems to really like it, and she needs a truck so that she can get a job and het back forth," she said.
"Yes, yes, I do. She's right, Dad. You should really listen to her," I said, trying to get him to say yes. I only made them laugh some more.
My dad glanced at me again and I looked at him with my infamous puppy dog face.
My bottom lip jutted out, and my blue eyes glazed over, and I could see my dad crumbling and about to fall. I was such a Daddy's girl and he knew it!
"Alright, we'll get it," he said, finally breaking under my puppy eyes.
I cheered and jumped out of the seat, throwing my arms aroud his neck. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I exclaimed. I hugged my mom, too, while my dad and the old man went off to take care of the business.
I jumped back in the car and ran my fingers along the seat. "You're coming home with me!" I whispered excitedly.
My dad came back over with the old man, and the old man smiled at me. "You take good care of this truck, okay? This truck has been so good to me for the past 25 years and I know she will be good to you, too," the old man said, handing me the keys.
I gingerly took them from between his fingers and shook his hand. "Of course. She's in great hands. Thank you so much, sir," I said, grinning like an idiot.
"You're very welcome, young lady. Be careful driving back home," he said, with a kind smile.
"Thank you, sir," my dad said, shaking the man's hand as well.
We said goodbyes and I eagerly climbed into the truck and slid the key into the ignition.
I slowly turned the key and the engine came to life. It sounded somewhere between a purr and a roar, and it made me giddy in my seat.
I took down the For Sale sign in the front window and placed it next to me in the seat.
I buckled up and adjusted the three mirrors, the two side ones and the rearview one. Then, I backed out of the spot that it was parked at.
I followed my dad out of the old man's driveway and followed him home.
I couldn't wait to drive this beauty every single day!
I know it's a little shorter, and I apologize! This was more of a filler chapter, where she gets her truck!
Please provide feedback for me! :)
