Chapter 9: The past

"We're here." Paige said as she pointed. I looked at the orchard filled field then read the sign. 'Au Coeur de la pomme.'

I then looked at Paige, "Is that why you asked if I liked apples?"

She nodded.

She then walked ahead of me and spoke, "Come on let's go."

"Okaay." I followed her into the field.

I guess this place is famous because of the the orchards. I looked around to see people picking apples and happily eating. Some were having a picnic while others sat on the benches talking. We went were it was least  occupied with people, we had pick some apples each on our way.

We sat on the grass, with the apples on our laps.

"So do you like apples?" I asked.

"I guess they're alright?" She said then continued, "I feel a special connection here... I don't know why."

I looked at her, I didn't want to ask about it but I found myself asking, "Were you human once?"

"Of course I was." She said taking a bit out the apple.

"Sorry... I know it was a stupid question to ask" I said.

Paige looked at me and spoke,

"I was a human once but my memory of being one is fuzzy.."

She looked at the grass and smile, "But I don't regret turning into a vampire. Am sure my parents are happy without me anyway."

"Uh?" I looked at her confused.

"The only memory I have about myself when I was a human was waking up sodden in blood, my sight was still blur. I look up at the car seats and I was on the roof laying. I guess I had got in an accident. I don't know what had caused it nor i couldn't remembered what had happened. I was the only one in the car. I don't know who and where my parents were at that time. I crawled out of the car but couldn't reach far. On my last breaths, I heard footsteps approaching me. I looked up and saw the most beautiful woman I've ever saw in my life her name was Eve. Her golden orbs looked at me as she asked me if I wanted to live or die. I couldn't answer but I nodded at her and completely block out. Everything was dark after, so dark to the point of driving me crazy. When I opened my eyes Eve explained what had happened to me." Paige finished her story.

I was growing curious about this Eve woman that I asked.

"Who's Eve?"

"Oh she's Lucas mother." Paige said.

"So you're not related?" I asked.

"No. Non of us are. Lucas is the only one with blood relation to Eve. The rest are adopted."

"Adopted?" I asked confused. I took a bit out of my apple.

"Yeah, when being a vampire, you can choose to add people(by turning them to vampire) to your family for defense." She said then continued, "Usually Eve goes after the one with special gifts. She wasn't the type that liked war through but she took care of us as her own"

"Hmmm...." I reach to eat another apple.

"Oh...am out." I said then watched Paige who was on her second apple.

I got up throwing the the unwanted remains of the apple into the trash bin that was near us. I then dust off my clothes.

"I'll be back." I said.

"Wait!" Paige shouted.

I ran off shouting, "Don't worry am just going to pick some more!"

I went in the deeper parts of the orchards for the apples that looks redder than the rest.

"Uh?" I said.

When reaching for the apple I felt something hit against my foot. I look down to see a white ball. I then look in the direction where it came from to see a small girl walking towards it.

I look at the girl shocked.
