oliver and sue were spread out
on oliver's bed, her
head on his chest
and his hands moving through her hair.
he asked about her movie and she
told him it was done and
he asked her how many bloopers
there were and she told him the
bloopers were
longer than the project
but that she loved it.
she wrapped her arms around him
and he held her impossibly
closer.
and they laid there, each
thinking their own thoughts and
basking in each other's company.
sue was the one to break the silence,
looking up at oliver with pain in her eyes.
"ollie," she sniffled. he sat up
immediately, wiping at the tears on her cheeks
and pushing her hair behind her ears.
"what's wrong, sue?"
"can we stop pretending for a second?"
"if that's what you want."
she nodded.
"I just don't know what i'm going to do
when I have to go back."
"I know, sue, I know."
"I don't think skype every once in
a while and messaging you will suffice,
especially not now."
"we'll make it, baby, I promise you."
"how do you know?"
"because we love each other, sue. is
distance going to change that?"
she shook her head.
"but, oliver, it hurts."
"I know. I know."
he pulled her close, letting her
cry into his shoulder.
"that just means it's real."
